Karen's Running

Karen's Running I’m Karen, a 65 year old runner determined to keep moving, keep learning and keep loving every mile. Let’s run this road together!

Sharing my little pep talks to encourage us all to stay strong, grateful, and active for as long as we can.

POV: You went out for a run… but walking keeps becoming the main event.

Reasons to walk during a run?
I have several. And frankly, they’re all very important.

Walking is not giving up. It’s strategic pacing with excellent excuses. 🚶‍♀️

Yep… it’s official.

🇯🇵 Tokyo Marathon 2027-I’m coming for you.

March 7th.
26.2 miles.
One very nervous runner.

Not just for the miles, but for the magic of the journey and the quiet belief that I’m capable of more than I think.

I’ve got 5 months to train, which sounds like ages until you remember that 26.2 miles is, in fact, a very long way.

So begins the training montage:

🏃‍♀️ Running
🏃‍♀️ More running
🌅 Running when it’s far too early
🦵 Complaining about my legs
😅 Wondering why I signed up
🏃‍♀️ Running some more

I’m teaming up with to turn this race into an unforgettable adventure, and I can’t wait to see what happens when I commit fully to the process.
26.2 miles. March. Tokyo.
Let’s see what I’m made of.

Apparently, getting older means your body can become a little… less communicative.

Take thirst, for example.

You can be wandering around dehydrated for hours, completely unaware, while your body is quietly thinking:

“Should we tell her she needs water?”
“Nah. She’ll figure it out.”

She won’t.

So sometimes getting older means becoming your own personal reminder app.

“Have we had some water?”
“No.”
“Right. Drink.” 💧

Consider this your reminder.
Go have a glass of water. 😉

So, this weekend I ran a 5K in Copenhagen… which was part of the World Road Running Championships. Though I have absolutely no footage of me actually running it.

And there’s a very good reason for that.

I was swept along by a group of awesome friends who had apparently decided that leaving me behind was simply not an option.

Which was absolutely lovely of them… Although at certain points, I did wonder whether I was being supported or abducted. Love you all Ross Donnelly | ASICS FrontRunner Jordan | ASICS FrontRunner 🇬🇧 lorén Nicola | ASICS FrontRunner • LOZZA • ASICS FrontRunner 🇬🇧 FARHANNAH Chelseay EMILY | ASICS FRONTRUNNER UK&I Chlo | ASICS Frontrunner 🏃‍♀️

They kept me moving, kept me laughing, and somehow, at one point…

…we did the conga.

First outing for my ASICS Sonicblast 2 shoes. Would I recommend them? Early verdict: I found them light and springy and super comfy-so very promising. I need more outings in them! 😊

From Heathrow’s futuristic little pods 🚝 to Copenhagen 🇩🇰 and suddenly I’m at the World Road Running Championships 🙌

I’m ridiculously excited to be here and on Saturday I get to run the 5K after the elites-which means I’ll be following in the footsteps of some seriously speedy humans.

I’m here to soak it all up, enjoy every kilometre, take in the atmosphere and remind myself that getting to run a 5K in Copenhagen as part of this incredible event is pretty special.

Copenhagen is about to get very, VERY busy… 👀🇩🇰

The world’s fastest runners are heading to the World Road Running Championships to battle it out over the mile, 5K and half marathon. 🌍🔥

And somehow…
I’ve got a bib too!
I’ll be taking on the 5K.

I’m heading over with my amazing ASICS FrontRunner UK teammates, alongside around 400 ASICS FrontRunner members from across the world.

So if you see a suspiciously large group of runners taking over Copenhagen…
Yep. That’ll be us. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

One city.
One very big running party.
Copenhagen, we’re coming for you! 🇩🇰❤️

You haven’t failed because you missed a workout.
Or “lost all your progress” because you had a takeaway.
And you definitely don’t need to wait until Monday to start again.

The real skill isn’t being perfect.
It’s getting back on track quickly.

Because the difference between someone who stays consistent and someone who constantly starts over isn’t that one person never has bad days.
They just don’t let a bad day become a bad week.

So lower the bar when you need to.

Can’t run for an hour? Run for 20 minutes.
Can’t do your full workout? Do 10 minutes.
Can’t hit every goal today? Hit one.

Something is always better than nothing.

You don’t need more motivation.
You need a version of your habits that still works when life gets in the way.

That’s where real consistency is built. 👊

AD. I’ve always been curious about what’s actually going on inside my body-beyond how I feel day to day.

I went into this not really knowing what to expect. I was curious about my biological age, but actually the individual blood markers were what I found most interesting.

Some were exactly where I’d expect, while others gave me a bit of a nudge to think about what I could be doing differently-including my uric acid and active B12 levels.

Now I’ve got some data to work with, rather than just guessing. The goal is to make a few changes I can actually stick to, then retest and see what’s changed.

You don’t need more motivation.

You need a reason to keep showing up when motivation disappears.

Because it will.

There will be mornings when your body feels older than you’d like to admit.

Days when the weather is awful.
Runs that feel slow.
Sessions that nobody notices.

Do them anyway.
Not because you’re trying to outrun ageing.
Because you’re trying to age well.

We can’t stop the clock.
But we can decide how we meet it.

06/09/2026

You don’t have to be the fastest runner in the room to belong there.

Every run you show up for is a little act of courage. Every mile, every messy run, every “I nearly didn’t go” moment counts.

Run for the version of you who decided to start.
Run for the progress no one else can see.
Run because you love it-or because you’re learning to.

There will always be someone ahead of you.
But there’s also someone watching you think, “Maybe I could do that too.” ✨
