🔨 Renovation Update 🔨
A productive few hours at the club this morning! 💪

We’ve now removed all of the old ceiling tiles, and one side of the floorboards has been lifted as we continue stripping the building back ready for the next phase of the renovation.

Every bit of progress is thanks to the time and effort our volunteers give, and it’s great to see things moving forward. Thanks to everyone who came along this morning and got stuck in – another step closer to creating a warmer, drier, and better club for the whole community. 💚🎱

Mining Summer League

Illogan B 1–5 Four Lanes

Four Lanes produced an excellent all-round performance on the road as they travelled to Illogan B and returned with an emphatic 5–1 victory in the Mining Summer League. Strong displays across the team saw Mike Jenkin produce two excellent victories, including a superb 37 break, while Dave Hares also won both of his frames. Gareth Bennett recovered from an opening-frame defeat to finish the evening with a well-earned win of his own.

Frame 1

R. Batty (+28) took on G. Bennett (+14) in a closely fought opener. Batty made full use of his handicap advantage and managed to hold off Bennett’s late charge, edging the frame 59–53 to give Illogan the perfect start.

Frame 2

Mike Jenkin (+0) responded immediately for Four Lanes against G. Lee (+21). Despite conceding a sizeable handicap, Jenkin produced one of the performances of the night, compiling a superb 37 break to wrestle control of the frame before cruising to a convincing 61–32 victory, levelling the match at 1–1.

Frame 3

Dave Hares (+14) continued Four Lanes’ momentum against D. Riddle (+21). Hares settled quickly after the handicap start and played with confidence throughout, pulling clear to record an impressive 73–42 victory and give the visitors the lead.

Frame 4

Mike Jenkin returned to face R. Batty (+28) and once again showed his class. Overcoming another significant handicap deficit, Jenkin controlled the frame from start to finish to record an outstanding 87–42 victory, extending Four Lanes’ advantage to 3–1.

Frame 5

The scheduled frame between G. Lee (+21) and Dave Hares (+14) was not played, with the victory awarded to Hares, securing the overall match for Four Lanes.

Frame 6

The final frame saw Gareth Bennett face D. Riddle (+21). After the disappointment of the opening frame, Bennett responded with a composed and disciplined performance, taking the frame 42–29 to complete an excellent night for the visitors.

Summary

Four Lanes bounced back superbly after dropping the opening frame, reeling off five consecutive victories to secure an impressive 5–1 away win.

Mike Jenkin was undoubtedly the standout performer, overcoming two handicap deficits while producing a superb 37 break in his opening frame to underline his excellent form. Dave Hares also enjoyed an outstanding evening with a convincing win and an awarded frame, while Gareth Bennett showed resilience to finish the night on a winning note.

A dominant team performance that keeps Four Lanes building momentum in the Mining Summer League. 🎱

Mining Summer League

Four Lanes 2 – 4 Godolphin B

Match Opening Statement

Four Lanes welcomed Godolphin B looking to build some momentum in the Mining Summer League, but the visitors produced a composed performance to take a 4–2 victory. Although the overall score favoured Godolphin, the evening featured several closely contested frames, with Mike Jenkin and Garth Dower both producing excellent wins to keep the hosts in the contest throughout.

Frame 1

M. Young (+28) faced D. Rowntree (+14) in the opening frame. Young battled hard from his handicap advantage, but Rowntree steadily reeled him in with some solid scoring before pulling clear to secure a 57–36 victory and give Godolphin the perfect start.

Frame 2

G. Dower (+14) took on M. Goodman (+14) in a tactical second frame. Goodman controlled proceedings from the outset and kept Dower at arm’s length, eventually claiming a deserved 49–31 win to double the visitors’ advantage.

Frame 3

Mike Jenkin produced Four Lanes’ first success of the evening against G. Duffield (+28). Despite conceding a significant handicap start, Jenkin played superbly to claw his way back into the frame before edging an entertaining contest 65–62, reducing the deficit to 2–1.

Frame 4

M. Young returned for his second frame against M. Goodman but found the Godolphin player in excellent form. Goodman produced another controlled display to run out a convincing 73–26 winner, restoring the visitors’ two-frame cushion.

Frame 5

With Four Lanes needing a response, G. Dower delivered just that against G. Duffield. Dower played with confidence throughout and took control in the closing stages to record an excellent 61–31 victory, giving the home side hope heading into the final frame.

Frame 6

The final frame saw M. Jenkin face D. Rowntree, but the Godolphin man finished the evening in style. Rowntree kept Jenkin under pressure throughout and completed a comfortable 57–5 victory, sealing a deserved 4–2 win for the visitors.

Summary

Godolphin B proved the stronger side on the night, claiming a deserved 4–2 victory with Rowntree and Goodman both winning both of their frames.

For Four Lanes, Mike Jenkin’s excellent comeback victory over G. Duffield and Garth Dower’s composed win in the fifth frame provided the highlights of the evening. Despite the defeat, the home side showed plenty of determination and will be looking to return to winning ways in their next Mining Summer League fixture. 🎱

Mining Summer League

Park Bottom 5 – 1 Four Lanes

Four Lanes made the trip to Park Bottom hoping to continue their recent Summer League form, but found the home side in determined mood. Despite the scoreline, the visitors kept battling throughout the evening, with Mike Jenkin ensuring Four Lanes avoided the whitewash in the final frame. Park Bottom’s J. Read was the standout performer, compiling an excellent 45 break as the hosts secured a deserved victory.

Frame 1

M. Jenkin (+0) opened proceedings against C. Mason (-7), but Mason quickly found his rhythm and controlled the frame well. Jenkin battled hard throughout but eventually went down 68–23 as Park Bottom took the early lead.

Frame 2

M. Young (+28) faced J. Read (+14) and found himself up against the performance of the night. Read produced a superb 45 break and never allowed Young to settle, powering to a commanding 97–15 victory and doubling the home side’s advantage.

Frame 3

D. Hares (+14) took on J. Opie (+0) in the third frame. Hares worked hard to stay in touch, but Opie controlled the key moments and secured a 74–28 victory to put Park Bottom firmly in command.

Frame 4

M. Young returned to face C. Mason and showed much greater resistance in his second outing. Despite receiving a healthy start on handicap, Young found Mason in excellent form once again as the Park Bottom player completed a 93–51 victory.

Frame 5

D. Hares produced one of Four Lanes’ strongest displays of the evening against J. Read. The frame remained competitive throughout, but Read edged the important moments and claimed a narrow 49–42 victory.

Frame 6

With a whitewash looming, M. Jenkin stepped up against J. Opie and produced a determined display. In the tightest frame of the night, Jenkin held his nerve brilliantly to sn**ch a 51–50 victory by a single point, earning Four Lanes a deserved consolation frame.

Summary

A difficult evening saw Four Lanes fall to a 5–1 defeat against a strong Park Bottom side. J. Read was the standout player, winning both his frames and compiling an excellent 45 break.

For Four Lanes, Mike Jenkin’s final-frame victory prevented the whitewash and provided a positive note to finish the evening, while both Young and Hares continued to battle hard despite coming up against opponents in excellent form.

On this occasion Park Bottom proved too strong, but Four Lanes will be looking to bounce back quickly in their next Summer League fixture. 🎱

🔨 Renovation Update 🔨

Slowly but surely, we’re getting there!

We’re now almost finished stripping the building back to the original stone and brickwork, revealing some of the character and history hidden behind decades of plaster and alterations.

It’s been a big job, carried out entirely by our members and volunteers, but every load of rubble removed is another step towards a warmer, drier and improved club for the future.

A huge thank you to everyone who has been helping. Your hard work is making a real difference.

A special mention also goes to Jo from the village, who kindly spent time weeding and tidying the front of the club. It’s looking lovely and has really helped improve the appearance of the building while the renovation work continues.

Mining Summer League

Four Lanes 6 – 0 Illogan C

Match Opening Statement

Four Lanes produced a ruthless display in the Mining Summer League this week, completing a whitewash 6–0 victory over Illogan C. Despite some generous handicaps in favour of the visitors, the home side controlled proceedings throughout, with Young, Veal and Hares all securing maximum returns in an impressive team performance.

Frame 1

M. Young (+28) got Four Lanes off to a winning start against C. Vivian (+35). Despite receiving seven fewer handicap points, Young settled quickly and edged out a hard-fought 50–41 victory to put the hosts ahead.

Frame 2

N. Veal (-7) faced the daunting task of conceding 42 points to G. Lawry (+35), but produced a superb performance to win 82–45. Once Veal got going, the handicap deficit disappeared faster than a tray of pasties at a committee meeting.

Frame 3

D. Hares (+14) continued the momentum against R. May (+28), producing a controlled display to claim a convincing 70–32 victory. Hares looked comfortable throughout and never allowed his opponent back into contention.

Frame 4

M. Young returned to face G. Lawry and secured his second win of the evening. Despite again giving away handicap points, Young played some tidy snooker and gradually pulled away to record a 62–49 success, guaranteeing Four Lanes at least a share of the match.

Frame 5

N. Veal was once again in excellent form against R. May (+28). Giving away 35 points from the start mattered little as Veal produced another dominant display, powering to an 83–41 victory and ensuring Four Lanes had the overall match safely wrapped up.

Frame 6

D. Hares rounded off the evening in style against C. Vivian (+35). In another frame where Four Lanes were conceding a sizeable start, Hares remained composed and completed a 54–33 victory to seal the clean sweep.

Summary

A dominant 6–0 victory saw Four Lanes overcome significant handicap deficits across the evening to record their strongest Summer League performance of the season.

Veal was particularly impressive, winning both frames comfortably despite giving away 42 points in each match, while Young and Hares also completed perfect nights with two wins apiece.

By the end of the evening, Illogan C had been swept aside more comprehensively than sand on Portreath beach during a winter storm, and Four Lanes could reflect on a thoroughly professional team performance. 🏆🎱

Illogan A 3 – 3 Four Lanes

Match Opening Statement

Four Lanes travelled to Illogan for a Summer League encounter that finished honours even after six entertaining frames. The visitors were giving away some sizeable handicaps throughout the evening, but a masterclass from Veal and a strong recovery from Hares ensured Four Lanes returned home with a deserved share of the spoils.

Frame 1

M. Young (+28) faced J. Reed (+14) in the opener, but despite his generous start, found Reed in solid form. Young battled hard throughout but was unable to prevent the Illogan man taking a 59–36 victory and giving the home side the early advantage.

Frame 2

N. Veal (-7) produced a superb performance against S. Gardner (+14), overturning a huge 21-point handicap deficit to record a convincing 67–38 win. Veal settled quickly and controlled the frame from the outset, showing the sort of composure usually reserved for someone who knows exactly where they’ve parked in Truro town centre.

Frame 3

D. Hares (+14) came up against M. Tresidder (+14) in a level-handicap encounter. Hares never stopped battling, but Tresidder kept the scoreboard ticking over and eventually secured a 46–29 victory to edge Illogan back in front.

Frame 4

The standout frame of the evening belonged to N. Veal. Facing J. Reed (+14), Veal produced a display that had spectators rubbing their eyes and checking they weren’t watching a professional exhibition. Breaks of 40 and 31 helped him power to an emphatic 83–39 victory despite conceding 21 points at the start. By the time the second break was finished, Reed was probably wondering whether Veal had secretly borrowed Ronnie O’Sullivan’s cue for the evening.

Frame 5

D. Hares bounced back brilliantly against S. Gardner (+14), producing a commanding 58–15 win. After a difficult first frame, Hares looked a different player, taking control early and never allowing Gardner into the contest. It was exactly the response Four Lanes needed to keep themselves firmly in the match.

Frame 6

The final frame saw M. Young (+28) return against M. Tresidder (+14). Young fought hard and kept himself in contention throughout, but Tresidder held his nerve in the closing stages to take a 55–44 victory. The result ensured the overall match finished level at 3–3.

Summary

A hard-earned draw for Four Lanes was built around an outstanding performance from Veal, who won both his frames despite giving away a massive 21-point handicap each time. His second-frame display, featuring breaks of 40 and 31, was undoubtedly the highlight of the evening and one of the best individual performances of the Summer League so far.

Hares also deserves credit for bouncing back strongly to take an excellent win in frame five, while Young battled gamely against tough opposition all evening. A fair result in the end, with Four Lanes showing plenty of quality and resilience against a strong Illogan side.

Four Lanes 3 – 3 Godolphin A

Four Lanes and Godolphin A played out a hard-fought 3–3 draw in the Mining Summer League, with the match swinging back and forth all evening like a pub door during happy hour at the Victoria Inn. Handicaps once again played a huge part throughout the night, with both teams battling hard in some tight tactical frames under the warm summer lights at the club.

Frame 1

M. Young (+28) opened the evening against W. Rogers (+14), but despite his sizeable start, eventually went down 58–40. Young battled well throughout and kept himself in the frame for long periods, though Rogers steadily clawed back the handicap deficit before taking control late on.

Frame 2

J. Hendy (+7) levelled things for Four Lanes with a composed 59–47 victory over P. Wedge (+21). Giving away 14 points from the start, Hendy produced a calm and steady display, slowly reeling his opponent in before pulling away in the colours like a man chasing the last pasty at a village fête.

Frame 3

M. Jenkin (+0) faced W. Tucker (+14) in the third frame, but Tucker’s solid scoring proved enough to secure a 61–42 win for the visitors. Jenkin kept battling away and produced some excellent safety play, though Tucker punished the loose chances well to edge Godolphin back ahead.

Frame 4

Back came M. Young (+28), who produced one of Four Lanes’ best performances of the evening with an excellent 76–44 victory over P. Wedge (+21). Young made full use of his start and settled into a strong rhythm, knocking in some tidy scoring while keeping Wedge pinned down tighter than traffic through Pool at tea time.

Frame 5

J. Hendy (+7) continued his excellent evening with another hard-earned win, defeating W. Tucker (+14) 45–38 in a tense tactical affair. Hendy kept his composure brilliantly during a scrappy frame and showed great bottle in the closing stages to put Four Lanes ahead overall.

Frame 6

The final frame saw M. Jenkin (+0) take on W. Rogers (+14) with the overall match hanging in the balance. Rogers held his nerve well and produced a strong display to take the frame 57–37, securing the draw for Godolphin A and ensuring the points were shared on the night.

Summary

A closely contested 3–3 draw saw both sides enjoy strong moments throughout the evening. Young and Hendy both secured excellent wins for Four Lanes, with Hendy particularly impressive in winning both his frames despite conceding points on handicap in each.

Godolphin A proved difficult opponents throughout though, with W. Rogers and W. Tucker both producing important victories to earn the visitors a deserved share of the spoils. Another entertaining Summer League night at Four Lanes, with plenty of competitive snooker and good laughs along the way.

Good luck to the Cornwall Snooker Team heading to Finals Weekend in Derby!

A huge achievement to reach the semi-finals, where Cornwall will face Lincolnshire A on Saturday 23rd May, with the final to follow on Sunday 24th May if the lads progress.

This Cornish Granite team has battled all the way to Derby, and one thing is certain — no side will have eight players who will fight harder for every frame. You wouldn’t want to meet this lot on a dark night!

A special mention from us at Four Lanes goes to our very own Ryan Curnow, who is part of the Cornwall team. A fantastic achievement and a proud moment for the club.

Summer League

Playing Place 4 – 2 Four Lanes

Four Lanes made the trip down to Playing Place for a Summer League clash that proved tougher than finding a parking space in Truro on market day. Despite flashes of quality and a couple of excellent wins, the visitors ultimately came away on the wrong end of a 4–2 scoreline against a strong home side.

The handicaps made for some intriguing battles throughout the evening, with Four Lanes often having to claw back sizeable starts. Young and Veal both produced excellent victories, but Playing Place capitalised well in the remaining frames to edge the contest.

Frame 1

M. Young (+28) got Four Lanes off to the perfect start with a gritty 75–61 win over J. MacCuish (+14). Despite giving away momentum early on, Young settled brilliantly and used his sizeable start wisely, steadily building pressure on the Playing Place man. The Four Lanes cueist kept things tight tactically and took his chances well, grinding out the frame with the determination of someone queueing for the first pasty batch at Rowe’s on a Saturday morning.

Frame 2

N. Veal (-7) produced arguably the performance of the night for Four Lanes, overcoming a massive 21-point handicap deficit to beat B. Trewern (+14) 62–50. Veal showed excellent composure throughout, slowly eating into the handicap before taking command in the colours. By the final black, Trewern looked about as comfortable as a seagull in a chip shop doorway. A superb win pulled Four Lanes into a strong early position.

Frame 3

D. Hares (+14) faced J. Moore (+21) in a closely contested frame that eventually swung the home side’s way 65–48. Hares battled hard throughout and stayed firmly in touch for much of the contest, but Moore’s steady scoring and clever safety play gradually turned the screw. It was one of those frames where every loose red seemed to drift invitingly toward the Playing Place cue ball.

Frame 4

N. Veal (-7) returned to the table against J. MacCuish (+14), but this time the Playing Place player gained revenge with a convincing 74–27 success. MacCuish settled quickly and never really allowed Veal to find rhythm, punishing mistakes with some tidy scoring. Veal kept battling away gamely, but the frame slipped away quicker than a pint left unattended during karaoke night at the pub.

Frame 5

D. Hares (+14) took on B. Trewern (+14) in a level-handicap battle, but Trewern controlled proceedings well to claim a 52–32 victory. Hares worked hard to stay in contention and produced some solid safety exchanges, though Trewern’s consistency around the table proved decisive. Playing Place were now beginning to gather momentum and smelled blood in the water.

Frame 6

The final frame saw M. Young (+28) come up against J. Moore (+21), but Moore rounded off the evening strongly with a 76–31 victory. Young never stopped battling and showed good spirit despite the scoreline, but Moore was in excellent touch and took his opportunities confidently. By this point the home side were flowing nicely, while Four Lanes looked like a team in need of a strong cup of tea and a tactical regroup before the next fixture.

Summary

A difficult evening for Four Lanes ended in a 4–2 defeat away at Playing Place, though there were still several positives for the visitors to take home.

Young produced a strong opening-frame victory, while Veal’s excellent comeback win despite a 21-point handicap deficit was one of the standout performances of the night. Dave Hares battled hard in both his frames but found the Playing Place players in solid form.

The home side ultimately proved more clinical across the evening, with J. Moore and J. MacCuish both producing strong displays to secure the overall win. Four Lanes will look to bounce back quickly and return to winning ways in the next Summer League fixture.
