After a record-breaking summer of hot weather, it is only right that the rain has returned upon the start of a new season - yes, that's right, the Redhill League is back for the 2026/27 season!

We start off with the Bill Burwood Cup, a competition made to favour the underdog, which is a great curtain raiser for the new season. There are a fantastic set of fixtures to look forward to so, as it's the start of a new season, let's take a quick look at each one...

Nomads v Merstham VC B - After a strong transfer window, the Nomads come back refreshed and stronger than ever as they look to climb into the top three league positions. So what better test of their credentials is there than facing the five-on-the-spin league champions who come off a league and President's Cup double last time out! A blockbuster to start!!

Old Oak v South Park CC B - The defending champions open up with a tough trip to the Old Oak as they look to get their campaign up and running. But can the Old Oak replicate what SPCC B last time and take out the defending champions in the very first round???

Salfords A v Merstham VC A - Two teams off the same handicap is always an intriguing affair, and this one is no different as the back-to-back runners-up, Salfords A, look to go one better this time as they welcome Merstham VC A, a team who are due a bit of a run in this competition...

South Park CC A v Salfords B - Another barn-stormer of a tie, last years bridesmaids host an increasingly strong Salfords B, who have got better-and-better over the last couple of seasons as their young team improves with each year that passes by!

Horley CC v Old Chestnut - The 2024 champions, Old Chestnut, will look to get back to winning ways in this competition after losing in the first round last season, while Horley may want to get their own back having finished runners-up in the B Division last season to their opening opponents.

Salfords Y v Jolly Brickmakers - This match is postponed until a later date, but what an exciting tie for two teams in Division B this season. Salfords Y are one of the favourites to bounce back after a disappointing season last-time out, but the Jolly Bricks will not roll over without a fight and will fancy their chances of having a good run in the Bill Burwood this season!

Presentation Night '26 Part 6 - "All the single winners"

It's now time to move over to our super singles finals - let's do it. These finals are what all players dream about, they give you oxygen and encourage you to never give up on the good times. But as time goes by, you can't help but think this might be a goodbye to the big finals. Well, you just have to say you'll be there again - as these players have - and that you wannabe a winner. Too much? Am I wasting my time?

Open Singles
Winner: Michael Wilson
Runner-up: Max Burt
There is no title more prestigous that the Open Singles in the RDBBL, and this years final pitted two of the finest young talents in the league against each other. The first time both players are under 30 and the youngest final in history, the league was guaranteed a new singles winner. Max & Michael have a long history in cue sports - although they usually do battle in Semi-Finals - but it was Michael who came out on top this time to secure his first Open Singles title!

Ladies Singles
Winner: Anita Blackman
Runner-up: Denise Wills
Two of the best Ladies of the modern-generation went head-to-head in the Ladies singles final, as record twelve-time champion Denise looked to defeat Anita - who had a remarkable unbeaten record in her three finals. Two of those victories - 2014 & 19 - were against Denise and Anita added 2026 to that list with back-to-back titles in a real battling final!

Reg Stone Singles
Winner: Jon Gillespie
Runner-up: Abbey Balchin
The Nomadic duo went head-to-head in Reg Stone final as both Abbey & Jon reached this final for the first time. It was a second singles final of the year for Abbey after the Under 35s (see below), while Jon was attempting to win his first bit of Billiards silverware. After a clost first leg, Jon put his foot to the floor and claimed the title!

Memorial Cup
Winner: Ricky Dewdney
Runner-up: Mark Nash
Only two players have won this title twice, Tony Cross (2013,24) & Tom Pearse (2017,18), with Tom being the only back-to-back winner... until now. Ricky defended his title with a scintillating display against the brilliant Mark, who'd claimed a series of massive scalps in Colin Robbins, Dave Constable, Aaron Hill & Gary Powell on his way to a maiden final, but El Dewd was just a step too far.

Over 50s Singles
Winner: Colin Robbins
Runner-up: Gary Powell
Two great friends on and off the table did battle in the Over 50s, with the final going down as one of the closest in all billiards history. With the match going one-way then the other, Colin managed to win by a mere 10 points as Gary accidentally potted two balls on his final shot, denying him a shot at the 100/200 for the title! An unbelievable finish which will not be forgotten in a hurry!

Under 35s - Dave Constable Trophy
Winner: Cian Wickham
Runner-up: Abbey Balchin
The second staging of the Under 35s saw two contrasting routes to the final - Cian, the home favourite, sailed past all those he faced while Abbey went the long route, playing almost all the frames it was possible to play on the way to the final. In the end it was Cian who wrapped up victory as Abbey ran out of steam, Cian being the first player to recieve the new Dave Constable Trophy!

The County Championships are over and it is Oxon who take the crown from Surrey with an amazing 5-2 victory in the last against Sussex A.

Surrey A were still in with a shout going into the last set of games, needing a 7-0 win, but - after a rapid 3-0 start - could only finish with a 4-3 win, three points of the winners.

Surrey B finished with their best result of the day, a 4-3 loss to Kent, finishing 6th.

A special mention must go to Surrey A's Gary Powell, who went unbeaten on the day, along with Dennis Atkins (Oxon) and Nigel Senior (Sussex A)

So an excellent day at High Wycombe, despite a lack of silverware this year, saw Surrey once again put up a fight - the Orange Army will return!!

The last set of matches are upon us and the leading two are Sussex A with 20 pts and Oxon 19pts. Surrey A are still in the hunt if they can secure a 7-0 win against Sussex B. The Surrey Bs haven't had their best day, but are looking for a strong finish against Kent.

We are well underway here in Totteridge and the Orange Army have hit the tables!

Remarkably, the first game of the day saw the Surrey derby, and defending champions Surrey A roared to victory with a 7-0 win.

In set two Surrey B got their first frame on the board courtesy of a superb Mark Fraser opener, but the high flying Oxon secured a 6-1 win overall. Surrey A, meanwhile, had an all-star clash with Sussex A, with six of the seven games being killed first go, Chris Cox battled past Dave Constable in a crucial scrap to defeat the defending champions, Surrey A, 5-2.

With three games still to play, the As are still in the title hunt, while the Bs have played two of the toughest teams and are ready for a strong backend!

The Orange Army are back!! Surrey go to the County Championships today as defending champions for the very first time! Once again both Surrey A and Surrey B have qualified for Division One and they will both be looking to bring the trophy back to Redhill for the second year on the bounce!

Presentation Night '26 Part 5 - "Bonus Points"

While alot of the prizes handed out on Presentation Night are for performance on the table, there are a number of presentations for efforts off or around it which we will recognise here!

Charity Presentation - St Catherine's Hospice, Crawley
In the 2025/26 season the RDBBL was proud to raise money for St. Catherine's Hospice in Crawley. A total of £600 was raised for this wonderful charity whose vision is for a future where everyone approaching death, and those who love and care for them, can access compassionate, specialist palliative and end of life care. Their wonderful team took members of the committee on a tour of the hospice to show the work that they do and this really showed the amazing work they do. 🧡🧡🧡

Charity Shield - Salfords Club
At each venue in our league there are charity tins to collect money for our chosen charity that season, the club that raises the most money wins this awesome trophy, with this years winner being the Salfords Club!

Most Sporting Team
A Division: South Park CC A
B Division: Salfords A
At the end of each match, a sportsmanship rating is given by each team captain to their opponents to find who, in each division, were the best team off-the-table as well as on it! This years victors are our happy ones: South Park CC A (A Division) and Salfords Club A (B Division).

Best Table
A Division: South Park CC
B Division: Merstham VC
As well as rating a teams sporting-ness, captains will rate the table they played on from the choices of "Excellent, Good, Average or Poor". The best average table rating over the course of the season then gains the best table award, this year they go to: South Park CC (A Division) & Merstham VC (B Division)

Best Newcomers - Stuart Taylor & Tyreek Kennelly
There were two players who were deemed worthy of this award this season for their debut seasons. Stuart has been with the Salfords A team this season and has an impressive 50% win rate from his six league games as he starts his billiards career. Meanwhile Tyreek, of the Jolly Brickmakers, has been a real bright spark of the league with 12 appearances and his scores increasing throughout his first season. He hit his maiden 1000+ score on 31st March and followed that up with his first two wins in the league on 21st & 28th April, with two more 1000+ scores to boot, ending the season on a real high!

Presentation Night '26 Part 4 - "Pairs Paradise"

Choosing the right partner can be key in our pairs competitions - the right match can be greater than the sum of its parts and lead to some of the most exciting games. Lets take a look at the ten pairs who gelled this year to take home some silverware!!

Open Pairs
Winners: Martin Pellett & Michael Wilson
Runners-up: Dave Jones & Tony Cross
There were only two pairs in RDBBL history who had successfully defended the Open Pairs title, one of those were in the final again in Dave Jones & Tony Cross (2015,17,18,22,24) and the other was the legendary duo of Alf Hunnisett & Alan Hall (1965,66,67,68,69,70). This year a third pairing was added to that list as Martin & Michael wrapped up a 3-0 success to secure a rare back-to-back triumph!

Ladies Pairs
Winners: Anita Blackman & Sue Oakley
Runners-up: Teri King & Yvonne Taylor
The Ladies Pairs final this year had a big contrast in experience. Anita & Sue went in with back-to-back-to-back titles and five-in-all, whereas Teri & Yvonne were in their first Ladies Pairs Final, building on their experience of a close-fought Terry Allen Pairs final the year before. It was the favourites, Anita & Sue, who took home their fourth title on the spin having fought off the excellent challenge of Teri & Yvonne.

Mixed Pairs
Winners: Melissa Jones & Dave Jones
Runners-up: Tracy Guy & Colin Robbins
Two first time finalistss did battle in the Mixed Pairs, as power pairing Tracy & Colin took on the Jones powerhouse of Melissa & Dave. In the end there was only one winner as the father-daughter duo sealed a superb success, twenty-one years after a certain Jones husband-and-wife duo had done the very same!

Terry Allen Pairs
Winners: Abbey Balchin & Jim Balchin
Runners-up: Paul Greenfield & Spencer Copping
A third final in four seasons for Abbey & Jim made them favourites for a second Terry Allen Pairs title, but there could be no underestimating a duo of Spencer & Paul who were riding high on the successes of the Old Chestnut in the past two seasons. The final was close fought and could have edged either way, but it was the Nomadic pairing, another father-daughter duo too, who came out on top and sealed a second title after their 2023 triumph!

Blind Pairs
Winners: Baz Symonds & Tony Cross
Runners-up: John Wallace & Laurie Roberts
The annual January RDBBL weekend once again featured the Blind Pairs competition, where players are randomly assigned a partner to compete with. This year it was Baz & Tony who successfully took on all before them and claimed the crown!

Presentation Night '26 Part 3 - "The Individual Awards"

Throughout the season although the team accolades are the main targets, there are a number of individual prizes on offer for our players too. Split across two divisions and Mens & Ladies awards, here's a rundown of this years top individuals!!

A Division - Men

The Player of the Year award is always a prestigous title and this years race was led by Nomads captain Dave Ingram. A couple of slip-ups early in 2026 brought the chasing pack back into the race, but eight victories on the spin to close off the season and secure this much coveted title for the first time.

A Division - Ladies

Two of Redhills finest went head-to-head once again in the battle to become Ladies Player of the Year. It was all square at the half way mark as both rivals had 10 points each, but a strong back end of the campaign with sevens wins out of her last eight matches for Denise saw her take the title via a superior average, despite playing three fewer games.

B Division - Men

This years Mens B Division POY race always had one player streaking out in front, that being steady-eddy Karl Tidy. His form was good throughout the first half of the season, but it was the run-in that really impressed winning the last eight games of the season on the bounce! A word must go to young Mark Nash, a breakout season for the Salfords B player saw him secure 14 wins at a rate of 74% and ensure his stock continues to rise!

B Division - Ladies

The most open race of the year was this one, the Ladies B Division. Eight players remained in the hunt with two games to go, but it was Salfords A captain Teri King who kept her cool to come out on top, narrowly snatching the title from fellow Salfords (B) captain, Caroline Jones.
