Happy ! 🎉

The theme this year "Play – here, there, everywhere!" sits at the absolute heart of everything we do at Intelligent Health.

We know that when children have the freedom to play outdoors in their local neighbourhoods, incredible things happen. It improves physical health, boosts mental wellbeing, and builds stronger, connected communities.

Through Beat the Street, we have seen firsthand how much families crave safe, local places to move. By turning whole towns into active playgrounds, we’ve empowered 1 million children and families to explore, play, and get active right on their doorsteps, in the very places they live, work, and learn.

Play shouldn’t be a luxury reserved for private gardens or expensive sports clubs. It should be a natural, enjoyable part of everyday life for every child, no matter where they live.

Today, as we celebrate the power of play, we're also continuing our work alongside 40+ health and play organisations to protect and restore everyday green spaces, remove unnecessary "No Ball Games" signs, and make local streets safer for kids to move freely.

Huge congratulations to Andy Burnham on becoming Prime Minister! 👏

Throughout his career, Andy has consistently championed the vital link between physical activity, health, and wider social value. From his early work alongside Dame Tessa Jowell to leading the Live Well initiative in Greater Manchester, he has recognised that health isn't just about healthcare, it's built in our everyday environments, local spaces, and communities.

Our Beat the Street programme provides that vital community spark. It energises a place turning streets, parks, and town centres into active, vibrant spaces where children, families, schools, workplaces, local businesses, voluntary organisations, and local statutory agencies move, talk, and engage with each other.
More than just a physical activity campaign, Beat the Street mobilises entire places around a common mission to get neighbourhoods, towns and cities moving.

✅ Shifting focus from managing illness to creating health where people live, work, and play by engaging the communities that traditional initiatives miss.

✅ Creating lasting local partnerships across schools, businesses, and voluntary organisations.

✅ Linking people to sustainable local physical activity and support networks for years to come.

Wali Noori spoke to school students at today's Beat the Street Colchester Celebratory event about his incredible journey.

Wali was born in Afghanistan and worked as an interpretor for the British Army where he was blinded while on duty.

He then moved to the UK and has won four gold medals at and has run the

Wali hasn't stopped there. He has written a book about his life, met at the Invictus Games and has an honoraray doctorate from from .

"Beat the Street is about keeping people fit, active and healthy", said Wali in his speech to the schoolchildren.

"Congratulations to all the winners today, it's a massive achievement.

"I encourage you to stay active and positive. Every step counts. Whatever you do, counts"

Beattie's next stop was Culzean Primary School, South Ayrshire.

Culzean Primary secured funding to run Beat the Street Carrick for the whole of Carrick in February this year and more than 3,200 players took part – 22% of the population.

Special thanks to Mrs McGarva, Principal Teacher, for all her hard work in delivering the game.

Today, Beattie was at the Cycling Scotland conference in Dundee hearing about Active Travel and met the team from Stratchclyde Partnership for Transport.
