TO MY BARNEY OWLS: THE FUTURE OF WORK HAS ALREADY ARRIVED

The world you are growing up in will be very different from the one your parents entered.

Artificial intelligence will become part of everyday working life. Many of you will have AI co-workers helping with research, reports, customer service, design, data and routine tasks.

AI may not replace everyone, but people who understand how to use AI will have a major advantage over those who refuse to learn.

That is why Nemesis is about far more than kicking and punching.

When we teach you to arrive on time, listen, accept correction, help younger students, cope with disappointment and continue working when you are tired, we are preparing you for life and employment.

When you compete, lead a warm-up, complete your Duke of Edinburgh Award, support a struggling child or represent your club and country, you are building the qualities employers will always value:

Discipline. Resilience. Leadership. Communication. Empathy. Accountability and work ethic.

The employment market is changing quickly, and too many young people are leaving education without direction, confidence or the skills they need.

I will not stand by and allow Nemesis students to become part of that statistic.

No Nemesis student will be permitted to choose the path of becoming NEET, Not in Education, Employment or Training, without us doing everything possible to support, guide and challenge them.

Some students may need additional help. Some may take a different route. Some will make mistakes or suffer setbacks. We will never abandon a young person who is genuinely struggling.

But doing nothing will never be the Nemesis standard.

My responsibility is not simply to produce champions. It is to help produce confident, employable, responsible and successful adults.

We will encourage our students to understand AI, use technology responsibly and develop the human qualities machines cannot replace.

I have spent decades building relationships across business, education and sport. Where possible, I will use that experience and my network to advise our students, introduce opportunities and open doors.

However, every student must develop the attitude, qualifications and character required to walk through those doors.

Parents, please continue giving your children responsibility at home. Encourage reading, qualifications, communication skills, volunteering, digital skills and part-time work.

Confidence does not come from protecting children from every difficulty. It comes from teaching them that difficulties can be overcome.

To my Barney Owls: your future will not simply be handed to you.

You must train for it.
