We had a great run report sent to us covering last week's event 720 from visting Banbury parkrun Run Director / Spiceball Country Park junior parkrun Co-Event Director Steve Hearn.

It's taken a while to get round to posting it up, but grab a cup of tea (and maybe your favourite biccie) and enjoy. πŸ«–πŸ“–

Today we celebrated our 17th birthday with event 721. Seventeen years old and still going strong. Although technically we’d have held rather more than 721 events if the pesky River Thames hadn’t spent several winters trying to turn us into Reading parkswim. 🌊

We had some proper Reading parkrun legends with us too. Christopher Kelly, Jeremy Cooke and Gina Hopkins were all there for event 1 way back in 2009. Mark Saunders, who was the timekeeper at that very first event, was also back doing the same role today, just with slightly more advanced technology!

And then there were the dinosaurs. πŸ¦– *Two participants running in dinosaur costumes and a cuddly dinosaur accompanying our Tail Walker. Because apparently turning 17 means you’re old enough to know better, but not old enough to stop dressing up as a T Rex.

There was also cake. 🍰 And tubs of Heroes. 🍫But both were completely extinct by the end of the morning.

We also have a hotel keycard that was handed in today. If you think it might be yours, do let us know.

And, before we all head back to the Jurassic period, you can check out today’s results hereπŸ‘‰

Thanks to everyone who has been part of the last 17 years. Whether you’ve run, walked, volunteered, tailwalked, marshalled, baked, eaten cake or simply turned up on a Saturday morning, you’ve helped make Reading parkrun the totally rawr-some thing it is.

17 years down. Still evolving. πŸ¦–

Thank you to the 22 people who made last Saturday's Reading parkrun happen.

From dishing out the tokens, to pointing people in the right direction or pointing a phone at a barcode, you all did a fantastic job.

Do you know what's involved in each volunteer role? (HINT: its probably a lot easier than you think!)

You cn check our what each role does here: https://support.parkrun.com/hc/en-us/articles/20047334957842-3-2-Volunteer-Roles

If you've like to help out this weekend, then drop us a line at [email protected]

Conditions were almost perfect on Saturday, so it was fantastic to see 51 people achieve a PB this week.

Congratulations to Dmytro and Simon on reaching the 25 and 50 milestone mark respectively.πŸŸ£πŸ”΄

If you are walking, jogging, or running a milestone in the future, make sure that day's Run Director knows so we can namecheck you in the Run Brief.

Welcome too to our 5 first timers this week; Dil Bahadur, Joshua, Mark, Richard and Sunita.

We had 378 people cross the line today, well done to you all! πŸ‘

However we only handed out 377 tokens, and it's taken a while to figure out what we think happened and when it happened. πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ

We've narrowed it down and we think we had a Funnel Ducker somewhere after position 350, but we can't be sure exactly where. So we've resubmitted our results, but if you think we've got iy wrong and have any info to help us pin it down further do let us know.

Updated results are here: https://www.parkrun.org.uk/reading/results/720/

See you all again next week for our 17 Year Anniversary event!! πŸŽ‚

If you'd like to try one of our lovely hi-viz vests on for size there really is no better time than this weekend.

We still need to fill a few crucial roles to make tomorrow's event happen, so we're looking for:

Marshal x3
Finish Token Support x1
Barcode Scanning x 1 (or 2)

All the roles are super simple and we can give you training on thr day.

If you can help please email [email protected] with your name, barcode number and which role you'd like to do.

We are a bit behind the curve for this week. However, it was worth the wait.

After last week's anomaly of no milestones, we had lots this week! Ten, to be precise!
Mathew, Sophie and Teigan reached their 25th run, 🟣
Lucy, Paul, and Virginia achieved their 50th run, πŸ”΄
and Tony hit the 250 mark. 🟒

The milestones weren't limited to those completing the run this week. Three of our amazing volunteering crew also reached significant numbers too, congratulations to Sammy (10), Owen (25) and Peter (50).

After weeks of heatwave after heatwave, the weather remembered that it’s supposed to rain in England on a Bank Holiday Weekend!

Still, 252 of you walked, jogged or ran your way around Reading parkrun this morning. Bravo to you all! πŸ‘

We also had a few Reading Festival tourists joining us while they’re in town for the weekend. Hopefully the rain at parkrun helped prepare them for their return to the festival site. πŸ˜‰

It was great to welcome the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crew from Caversham Road Fire Station back again for another visit. πŸš’

Having come along to meet and chat with everyone, they even let one lucky youngster have a go with the hose. We’re not saying that was the highlight of their morning, but it definitely looked fun! Huge thanks to the crew for joining us. Did you get a chance to chat to them?

One small results note: our Number Checker’s paperwork got very wet today. We’ve dried off and made our best estimates to get everyone’s result as accurate as possible. If yours doesn't look quite right, don't panic. Just email [email protected] with as much information as you can and we'll take a look.

Today's results πŸ‘‰ https://www.parkrun.org.uk/reading/results/719/

Now go and find some dry clothes.
