As part of our commitment to making our centres as inclusive and welcoming as possible, our team have been learning to use Makaton. This is a unique language programme that uses signs, symbols and speech to help people communicate. Many of our amazing members and visitors use Makaton, and we’re proud to support and learn alongside them. 🧏‍♂️🧏‍♀️

Each month, we’ll be sharing a new Makaton sign with you, and we’d love for you to join in! 💙

🌍💨 CO₂ — It’s more than just a number!

We all produce CO₂ every day — but did you know the amount of CO₂ in the air can tell us a lot about the environment around us? 👀

💡 CO₂ FACTS & TIPS

🔹 We breathe it out! Every time we exhale, we release CO₂.
🔹 Plants love it! 🌱 Plants use CO₂ during photosynthesis to help them grow.
🔹 Fresh air matters! In enclosed spaces, CO₂ levels can rise as people breathe — a useful indicator that ventilation may need improving.
🔹 Open a window! 🪟 Good ventilation helps replace stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air.
🔹 CO₂ isn’t the same as CO! Carbon dioxide (CO₂) and carbon monoxide (CO) are completely different gases — and CO is much more dangerous to humans.
🔹 Small changes add up! Switching off unused lights/equipment, reducing energy waste and being mindful of heating and cooling can all help reduce carbon emissions. ⚡

🌱 Quick challenge:
Next time you’re at work, have a look around and ask yourself:

“What could I do today to reduce the amount of energy — and CO₂ — we use?”

One small change might not feel like much… but collectively, they make a BIG difference! 💚
