🔵🟡MATCH REPORT🟡🔵
Saturday 29th August 2026
Valspar vs Glenburn MWFC
KGV Playing Fields 10:30am KO
🔵 3 mins early pressure and a chance for Valspar.
🟡 6 mins a foul on Alex Craig at the edge of the box, Sam MacPherson delivers the free kick into to the box and its knocked on for Harry Templeton to meet it on the half volley at the back post but it cannons off a defender covering that post.
🔵8 mins continued Glenburn pressure sees Tommy Stuart rattle the underside of the bar from 15 yards.
🟡15 mins Tommy Stuart heads forward to Caleb Keith who sends a nice ball to Alex Craig, who turns beautifully inside the box to lose his marker and finish low past the keeper 1-0 The Miners ⚽️
🔵25 mins a great move from Glenburn turning defence into a good goal scoring opportunity. Harry Templeton makes a sliding tackle to stop the Valspar attacker getting one on one against our goalie, Noah McDonald tidies up the loose ball, evades a challenge and finds Sam MacPherson who plays a great ball to Caleb Keith who controls well before passing to Rory Wilson and he set up Alex Craig whose final effort is somehow cleared off the line 🧤
🟡28 mins another great long range effort from Tommy Stuart goes just over.
🔵31 mins the Valspar no5 runs half the length of the pitch to the byeline, and cuts back to his team mate 12 yards from goal - but his effort goes well wide.
🟡Glenburn continue to create chances going forward and Valspar look dangerous when breaking on their right wing through no5, but it remains 1-0 The Miners as we go off at half time.
🔵Into the second half and on 47 mins Rory Wilson is played through on goal but his shot goes just wide.
🟡50 mins after some sustained Glenburn pressure for the first time in the half, Fletcher McLurkin has a good effort just go wide.
🔵The half wears on with neither team making many more chances at either end, until Lucas Stirling is eventually called into action withe two stunning saves 🧤
🟡The first comes around the 55 minute mark when he blocks a close range effort from his right with his legs to concede a corner which is cleared 🧤
🔵His second save around 65 minutes though helped ensure Glenburn secured all 3 points, a sweeping move from Valspar allowed them to get the ball out to their wee left winger and the ball sat up perfectly for him to strike, but Lucas Stirling got down well to his right and held the shot 🧤
🟡Valspar sensed blood though and kept Glenburn pinned in their own half for the final few minutes before the referee eventually blew for full time.
🔵A classic example of a game of two halves, but not a classic Miners performance in the second half as we gave away possession too easily, and found it difficult to make the right decisions in the final third when it mattered most.
🟡However 3 points secured ✅ a long post match chat in the dressing room and on to next week 🫡

🟡🔵MATCH REPORT🔵🟡
Saturday 22nd August 2026
Dean Thistle vs Glenburn MWFC
Dean Park Playing Fields 10am KO
A gentle autumn day 12 degrees, dry with little to no wind as both teams took to the field for this first league match of season 2026/27 ✅
A quick start on 2 mins, Glenburn take the game to Dean, and Rory Wilson gets the first shot off which the keeper saves well and Dean clear 🧤
10 mins a great through ball from Alex Craig in central midfield sets Rory Wilson free but he can’t get a shot off this time.
17 mins good pressure from Glenburn in the Dean box, for the next 5 minutes creating several chances 😃
On 20 mins the break through arrives as Alex Craig starts the move from left midfield that involved Tommy Stuart & Rory Wilson and they play Alex back into the box and his pressure causes the Dean defender to score past his own keeper ⚽️ 1-0 The Miners.
At 29 mins a good corner from Sam MacPherson met by a glancing header from Zac Aiton that goes just wide.
On 31 mins a short Glenburn clearance met by Dean, and the lobbed effort is met by a great fingertip save from Lucas Stirling onto the bar and cleared for a corner 🧤
35 mins Dean through ball hits off Harry Templeton’s foot and rolls up off his arm which is by his side not in an unnatural position - but the referee awards a free kick 30 yards out. Lucas Stirling palms down the effort and Harry Templeton clears before the referee blows for half time.
HT 0-1
40 mins 2-0 The Miners! Caleb Keith with a lobbed shot from 25 yards and the Dean keeper had it, but spills it at Zac Acton’s feet and he pops it into the net ⚽️
46 mins 3-0 The Miners! Lewis Taylor attacks down the left wing, squares to Alex Craig whose effort is blocked, the ball eventually falls to Tommy Stuart who follows up to knock home the loose ball ⚽️
49 mins Sam Yasa unlucky with a good strike from distance which goes just over the bar.
53 mins Rory Wilson beats the offside trap and gets one on one with the keeper but his shot goes just wide.
59 mins Rory played in again in a similar position and looks to have done everything right again but is denied for a third time as a Dean defender comes in to clear off the line.
62 mins 4-0 The Miners! Declan Carlyle & Rory Wilson combine to set up Zac Aiton in the box and he blasts home ⚽️
Glenburn finish with a flurry of corners but cant get the elusive fifth goal, and the game finishes with strong opening day 4-0 victory for The Miners.

🟡🔵Land O’ Burns🔵🟡
A weekend of ups and downs for The Miners.
Spells of fantastic football were unfortunately coupled up with instances of some lapses in concentration.
A fantastic achievement to reach the Semi Finals of the Cup after spending most of Saturday night expecting to compete in The Salver. A crucial last group win against Rossvale securing our passage.
Group stage results;
🔵 Game 1: Glenburn 2:3 Cumnock
⚽️Aiton
⚽️Wilson
🟡 Game 2: Glenburn 4:4 AM Soccer
⚽️Craig
⚽️Wilson
⚽️Stuart
⚽️Carlyle
🔵Game 3: Glenburn 4:2 Rossvale
⚽️ Wilson
⚽️ McMahon
⚽️ ⚽️ Aiton
1 win, 1 loss and 1 draw was enough to take us into 2nd place in the group on goal difference.
Game 4: Glenburn 0:3 Ardrossan Winton Rovers
Unfortunately losing 3 quick goals in the first half was too much for the boys to come back from. The boys played well in the second half but couldn’t find enough to get anything past a strong Ardrossan back line.
Well done to the boys. Despite the scheduled timings, delays between games meant everyone ended up with 2 long days at Rozelle. However we were lucky with the weather, and the experience sets up nicely for our next tournament - next weekend in Dundee 💪🏻 ⚽️
Thank you to Eddie Wallace for the photos 📷
