Welcome to Eoghan Rua page! Eoghan Rua CLG is a GAA club in the Triangle area covering Coleraine, Portstewart and Portrush. Our ground, Pairc Eoghain Rua, is located at Cappaghmore, on the outskirts of Portstewart. The grounds were officially opened in 2009 by Tom Daly, then President of Ulster GAA. Eoghan Rua operates over twenty teams in gaelic football, hurling and camogie from fundamentals (U-6) through to adult level. We compete in the Derry league and Championship, and in hurling and camogie we compete in the Ulster League. In addition our senior and minor hurlers play in the North Antrim hurling leagues. We have an active Cultural programme offering Irish language classes, traditional music and Irish Dancing (McNicholl School). We host regular cultural events to celebrate events such as St Patrick’s Day, when we hold a concert and céili and the Feat of St Brigid when we make St Brigid’s Crosses. The Club enjoys tremendous support among the local GAA community. In 2010 our Senior footballers won our first Derry Senior Championship, truly marking our arrival in Derry Senior Football. In the same year the Senior camogs win the Derry and Ulster Championship, going on to win the All Ireland Intermediate in Croke Park.

Smicko - our new S&C App💜💚

As a club, we are so excited to announce that we have just launched our new SMICKO Strength and Conditioning App.
This will help our players to continue their development no matter where they are, staying in touch with their coaches and teammates and ensuring that our players can continue to perform at the top level possible.

But why SMICKO?

The name has a very special meaning for Eoghan Rua, and pays tribute to someone who was a friend to all, and who is much missed by many of our club members.

Smicko was the nickname of our much-loved player Michael McQuillan, who took enormous pride in representing Eoghan Rua. Smicko was a valued member of our hurling teams who gave us memorable days through their Ulster and All Ireland campaigns. Michael was an enthusiastic and popular teammate with a great sense of fun, but above all, someone who loved his club and took great pride in pulling on the Eoghan Rua jersey.

Naming the platform SMICKO is our small way of ensuring Michael’s name remains part of the development of future generations of Eoghan Rua players.

His name goes with us and our thanks to his mum, Margaret for coming by and taking some photos today. A very special lady indeed.💜

💜💚 SMICKO | Strength. Progress & Pride. Eoghan Rua.

Eoghan Rua's senior footballers have topped their Intermediate championship group with a narrow 3-14 to 2-16 win away to Claudy earlier this afternoon and now await the quarter-final draw against a second placed group team.
After conceding a goal in the second minute ER gradually worked their way into a six point lead, 1-8 to 1-2 by the end of the first quarter. Dara Mooney intercepted the Claudy goalkeepers kick out to place Ciaran McGoldrick for the 8th minute goal while a fine Barry McGoldrick two-pointer edged ER ahead 0-6 to 1-2.
However Claudy dominated the last ten minutes of the first half, hitting five points, two from frees, in a row to leave just a point between the sides. It was still a one point game at the break as the sides traded points from frees with ER just ahead 1-9 to 1-8.
Claudy started the second half well with a two-pointer and then a goal to lead 2-10 to 1-9. ER responded well with three points in a row but again Claudy stormed back with three points to lead 2-13 to 1-12 midway through the half.
A fine Finn McEwan goal then brought ER to within a point again as fortunes swung one way then the other.
Claudy then seemed to have pulled away again as they led 2-16 to 2-13 with just two minutes of normal time left.
ER surged forward and were rewarded when Lorcan McMullen's hard run was halted with a high tackle for a penalty which was neatly dispatched to the net by Dara Mooney to level matters.
Needing a win to top the group ER went on the attack again and Pearse McGonigle fired over what turned out to be the winner.
There was still time for Claudy to get something out of the game in added time but ER were able to win possession and run the clock down for the win in a game of fine margins.
ER scorers: Dara Mooney (1-5, 1-0pen, 2fs), Ciaran McGoldrick (1-1), Finn McEwan (1-1), Pearse McGonigle (0-3), Lorcan McMullen (0-2), Barry McGoldrick (0-2p).
