A huge congratulations to Abi and Jake for passing their NCC Guide assessments! 🎉

Over the season, both have built up experience and further developed their skills, putting all that experience to the test through their assessments. And they passed!! They can now bring that knowledge and experience to the groups we welcome here at Portland Outdoor Centre. 🧗‍♀️🌊

🌊 FREELANCE WORK AVAILABLE ☀️

For any of our friends, climbers and other outdoor professionals along the south coast, this one’s for you! ☀️

We are on the look out for a few more freelance outdoor instructors to help cover some of our busy dates throughout the 2027 season.

Come and work, play and explore the Jurassic Coast from the Isle of Portland, delivering activities including climbing, coasteering, watersports, bushcraft and more!

£800 for a 5-day block booking

Evening activities: +£35 per evening

Overnight duties: +£60 per night
Includes the evening activity

DATES WE NEED COVER:

📅 21st–23rd April
📅 7th–11th June
📅 14th–18th June
📅 21st–25th June
📅 12th–16th July
📅 20th–22nd July

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

• RCI qualified
• NCC Guide
• Other relevant outdoor qualifications and experience considered

🌿 Field Note Monday 🌿

We were blessed by the appearance of a Hummingbird Hawk-moth 🦋 on one of our recent climbing sessions last week!

Despite its name, it’s actually a moth — and one of the few moths that can hover like a hummingbird, feeding on flowers while never touching the floor 🌸

It’s a great reminder that there’s so much wildlife hiding in plain sight around us. 🌱 Every walk and outdoor session can bring a new little discovery

🥾 Come and explore the outdoors with us and discover the wildlife that lives right on our doorstep.
