50’S UNBEATEN OPENING IN SOMERSET
A positive first round for Clevedon & District in the Somerset FA Over 50’s League. The five games played brought two wins and three draws, enough to put the side top of the league at this early stage.

C&D opened with a 0-0 draw with Peasedown. This was followed with 2-0 win against Nailsea, Neil Bland and Mark Pannett scoring, and a 1-0 victory over Yeovil, Mark Pannett again. A 0-0 result next against Sporting Weston, the opposition keeper making a number of fine saves. Lastly a 2-2 draw with Taunton, the goals coming from Matt Gillett and Mark Pannett.

A big thanks to Mark Steadman for stepping in at very short notice to provide solidity in defence and to Dave Morgan for taking on the goalkeeper role and putting in five excellent performances between the sticks. Finally well done to debutant Paul Lumb for some strong performances.

The Clevedon & District 60’s carried their recent good form into today’s opening round of the Somerset FA taking all nine points on offer.

Mark Pannett scored the only goal in an opening 1-0 win over Frome Stripes. A very fluent performance next secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Yeovil, Neil Bland and Chris Payne getting the goals. In the last game against Frome 1st team, another Chris Payne strike, plus a fine save from Nigel Clarke, meant a 1-0 win for C&D.

Well done to the team, pictured below, for showing great resilience, playing some top football and keeping three clean sheets. There’s a long way to go and tough challenges to come but it’s a solid start. Big thanks to Paul Lumb who once again made the journey to cheer the boys on.

60’s WIN FA REGIONAL TITLE AND PROGRESS TO NATIONAL FINALS
A fantastic day for Clevedon and District Walking Football Club in the FA National Cup. The 60s were crowned South West Regional champions and now progress to the National Finals at St George’s Park, Burton-on-Trent in October.

The group stage got off to an indifferent start with a 0-1 defeat to Wimborne despite dominating the game. C&D bounced back with a 1-0 victory against South Hams, the goal from Mark Pannett while a wonderful Nigel Clarke save ensured a clean sheet. An Andy Rankine rocket and Mark Pannett’s brace secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Morwenstow. A 0-0 draw with Melksham meant C&D top of the five team league and faced a final against Wimborne.
A Mark Pannett penalty decided the match, giving the team a 1-0 lead that they never like relinquishing.

A great effort by the whole squad who produced outstanding football, never gave up and well deserved to come away as champions. Finally, a big thanks to Rich Orr, Paul Lumb and John Hughes whose support from the sidelines was hugely appreciated by the team.

Clevedon & District 65’s were in action on Thursday in the penultimate round of the Hutton Moor Summer League. The team featured a number of new players stepping in to the side.

With Abbeymead unfortunately unable to raise a team for this round the other teams each received three points. After a warm-up game C&D faced Western Rebels, a point behind them in 2nd in the table. The lads played some nice football, creating chances, but the Rebels got the only goal in a 0-1 defeat. C&D then found themselves 0-1 at the break against Taunton but Nigel Workman equalised for a 1-1 draw.

Going into the final round C&D are two points behind the leaders so are right in contention with all have to play for. Great effort, hard work and determination from the squad (pictured). Thanks as always to the referees, and to Rich Orr for the snaps.

A solid start on Thursday for Clevedon & District in the opening round of this season’s Gloucestershire FA Over 60’s League. The lads finished the day unbeaten with a win and three draws.

Firstly was a convincing 3-1 victory over newly promoted Cwmbran, goals coming from a Matt Gillett double and Mark Pannett. In the next game with Abbeymead, C&D took the lead through Mark Pannett’s goal but Abbeymead equalised with the last attack of the game making it 1-1. Then a very even 0-0 draw against a very strong Barry Town side. The highlight of the game an extraordinary Nigel Clarke save, changing direction in mid air to tip the ball over. Finally a typically tight goalless draw with local rivals Weston Super Mare, defences largely on top.

Well done to the squad who were competitive in every encounter, in a league where there will be no easy games. With a bit more luck they could have collected a few more points. Big thanks to Paul Lumb who came to cheer the boys on.

Left to right Matt Gillett, Neil Bland, Chris Payne, Nigel Woods, Mark Pannett, Nigel Clarke and Mark Steadman.
