FULL TIME – THE WINNERS ARE CONFIRMED! 🏆

📢📢 After weeks of football, hundreds of goals, countless leaderboard changes, bonus points, disciplinary headaches, and more spreadsheet work than should be legally permitted, the 2026 World Cup Super6 competition has finally come to an end!
First of all, a quick resolution to the mystery that delayed proceedings. FIFA's official statistics only include Enzo Fernández's red card in the final. The reported Leandro Paredes dismissal after the final whistle has not been counted as an in-game red card, meaning no additional disciplinary penalty was applied to Argentina.

⚽⚽ As for the football itself, Spain are World Champions once again, winning their second World Cup in circumstances remarkably similar to their triumph in 2010. They steadily navigated their way through the knockout rounds before finally ending Argentina's defence of the trophy.

🇦🇷 Argentina's incredible run eventually came to an end at the final hurdle. After surviving several close calls throughout the tournament, the final proved one step too far. But at least they took defeat well... or perhaps not! 😏 ⚽⚽

⚽ The World Cup finished with a total of 308 goals, thanks in part to the remarkable 10-goal Third Place Play-Off between England and France.

🎯 The goal prediction competition produced its own drama. Eleven entrants predicted 307 goals, but nobody selected 308, meaning there was no exact winner after the final added one more goal to the tournament total.

Results Delayed... There's a Red Card Query! 🟥🤔

📢📢 Before anyone asks why the winners haven't been announced yet, there's a small complication...
The issue centres on Argentina's disciplinary points in the World Cup Final.

At present, the FIFA website is only showing one red card for Argentina, awarded to Enzo Fernández. However, there are reports that Leandro Paredes may have been sent off after the final whistle, and that's where things become interesting from a Super6 perspective.

⚽ If Paredes did receive an official red card that is subsequently added to the disciplinary totals, Argentina's points tally would be affected. That would mean an additional disciplinary penalty for Argentina, which could then have a knock-on effect for those of you who selected the losing finalists.

🏆 Given that some competitions are being decided by very small margins, I'd rather spend a little extra time getting it right than announce winners and have to change things later.

Penultimate Update – One Match Left to Decide It All!
📢📢 We have reached the penultimate update of the tournament and, incredibly, there is now just one match remaining. The Third Place Play-Off has been completed, the semi-finals are in the books, and after weeks of football, goals, shocks and leaderboard swings, everything now comes down to the World Cup Final.
⚽⚽ The departing teams certainly didn't leave quietly. After suffering narrow semi-final defeats to 🇦🇷 Argentina and 🇪🇸 Spain respectively, 🏴 England and France served up an incredible goal extravaganza in the Third Place Play-Off, contributing a remarkable 10 goals and giving neutrals one final knockout classic before the main event. It was a fitting reminder of the quality both teams have brought to the tournament, even if neither could quite make it to the final. ⚽⚽
⚽ The goals just keep coming! We now stand on 307 goals for the tournament, thanks in no small part to those 10 goals in the Third Place Play-Off. That leaves things very interesting in the goal prediction competition. Eleven of you predicted exactly 307 goals, and with just one match left, you're all still in the hunt. Interestingly, nobody predicted 308 goals, meaning that a cagey 1-0 final would leave us without a single correct prediction! ⚽
🏆🏆 That leaves us with a mouth-watering final between Argentina and Spain. The reigning champions continue to find ways to win, often by the narrowest of margins, while Spain have quietly and efficiently navigated their way to the biggest game in world football. One final match will decide not only the World Cup winners, but potentially the outcome of all five Super6 competitions. 🏆🏆

Back From Holiday... And Back to the Leaderboards!

📢📢 I'm back from holiday and, after a brief period of reacquainting myself with reality, I've finally pressed the magic data sort button on all five competitions! The tables are now up to date, and thankfully the emergency backup plan of sorting everyone's scores manually on bits of paper was not required. Thanks for all your patience while I tried and failed to update the scores without fully functioning internet😜

⚽⚽ Since the last update, we've completed both the Round of 32 and the Round of 16, and the tournament has continued to deliver drama. We've now said goodbye to all three host nations, despite what appeared to be every possible attempt at skulduggery to keep the 🇺🇸 USA involved for as long as possible! 🇨🇦 Canada and 🇲🇽 Mexico have also departed, meaning there'll be no host representation in the latter stages of the tournament.

We've also lost two of the pre-tournament favourites in 🇧🇷 Brazil and 🇵🇹 Portugal, opening up the draw and leaving a number of Super6 entries wondering what might have been. Meanwhile, reigning champions 🇦🇷 Argentina continue their defence of the trophy, once again winning by a nail-biting 3-2 scoreline. This time it was the unfortunate 🇪🇬 Egypt who came up short despite a performance that arguably deserved much more.

A quick Super6 note on those knockout matches: the missed penalties by Messi and Mbappé didn't penalise those of you who selected Argentina or France (other than the missed opportunity for extra goals). Instead, they provided some welcome bonus points for the relatively small number of entrants who backed Egypt and Morocco. Every point matters at this stage! ⚽⚽

🏆🏆 The updated tables have now been generated across all five competitions and there are some fascinating battles developing at the top. Some leaders have strengthened their positions, others have been reeled in, and there are more than a few entrants mounting a charge from behind. With fewer matches remaining and some major teams already eliminated, every point gained — or lost — becomes increasingly significant. 🏆🏆

📢📢 The Last 32 is almost complete, with just Argentina v Cape Verde still to come later tonight. However, I'm heading off on holiday, so there may be a bit of a Facebook silence over the next week! 😎☀️

I'll do my best to keep the points updated as the tournament progresses, but the regular posts and leaderboard tables may be a little more hit-and-miss than usual. Please bear with me while I swap spreadsheets for sunshine! 🌴🍹

Group Stage – BONUS POINTS APPLIED

📢📢 And here we go… this is where things get really interesting! After showing the standard scores in the previous post, we’ve now added in all the group stage bonus points.

🏅🏅 A reminder of how those bonus points work:

Win group ➡️ +10 points
Finish runners-up ➡️ +5 points
Finish bottom ➡️ -5 points
Maximum points in the group ➡️ +10 points

👉 PLUS:

These bonuses are doubled for wildcard teams
And penalty points (zero or -10) are doubled for top-ranked teams

🇨🇭 Switzerland won their group, earning +10 points — but as a wildcard pick, that was doubled to +20 points 💥

Group Stage – Matchday 3 Complete

📢📢 The group stage is now complete, and what a few days it’s been! I’ll be doing two posts back-to-back today — this first one showing the standard points after the third round of fixtures, followed by a second post with all the bonus points for finishing positions (first, second, maximum points, etc.) added on. Huge changes and big point increases are incoming!

⚽⚽ The final round delivered everything. Scotland briefly thought they were able to play like Brazil, then realized they couldn't and crashed out (again), while England progressed — but without really convincing anyone they can go all the way. And as has been the story of the tournament so far, Lionel Messi was on the scoresheet yet again, continuing a remarkable run of form. Iran thought they’d made it… then they hadn’t, while Belgium finally arrived and showed their quality at just the right time. And perhaps the story of the group stage — Cape Verde have defied the odds to set up a clash with the world champions in the next round… they couldn’t, could they? ⚽⚽

⚽ The final round saw 74 goals scored, bringing the overall total for the group stage to 215 goals — an average of 3.0 goals per game. The matchday average came in at 3.1, and that leaves our projected total at 311 goals by the end of the tournament. ⚽

Group Stage – Matchday 2 Complete
📢📢 With the second round of fixtures now complete, the picture in both the tournament and Super6 is really starting to take shape.

⚽⚽ From a footballing perspective, Matchday 2 kept the momentum going. Lionel Messi added another couple to his tally, while Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé also continued their strong starts with braces. Cristiano Ronaldo got up and running too, scoring his first goals of the tournament as Portugal saw off Uzbekistan. Messi’s missed penalty, by the way, does not punish the 893 of you who selected Argentina (other than it being a missed opportunity for a goal). Instead, it rewards the two of you who selected Austria with a couple of extra bonus points.
We’re beginning to see the group dynamics unfold — a few teams have already secured their place in the knockout stages with a game to spare, while others unfortunately already know their World Cup journey will be coming to an end after the group stage. The problem, from a Super6 perspective, is whether those teams who know they have qualified play full strength teams in their final match. How much advantage do they see in finishing top? No rest for the wicked today as Matchday 3 begins on the same day Matchday 2 ends. Remember the final matches in each group are scheduled to be played simultaneously… unless we get any more 2 hour weather breaks! ⚽⚽

⚽ Matchday 2 produced 66 goals, nine fewer than the opening round. That sees the matchday average drop to 2.8 goals per game, and 2.9 overall across the tournament so far. The revised projected total now sits at 306 goals by the end of the competition. ⚽

🎯 Don’t forget — that goal prediction could be vital, especially if we have ties at the top of any leaderboard. At the minute, only one entrant across all competitions has that exact prediction — Aaron Kilpatrick in Bourneview Mill’s Super6 👏

🔥 Another big round for Super6 scoring, with the big names continuing to deliver. However, with some teams now safely through, rotation becomes a real factor heading into Matchday 3 — something that could shake things up significantly.

Group Stage – Matchday 1 Complete

📢📢 The opening round of fixtures is now complete, and with every team having played once, the first Super6 standings are officially on the board! It’s always a tricky start. Some of you have hit the ground running, while others will already be plotting a comeback in Matchday 2.

⚽⚽ From a footballing perspective, what a start it’s been! Lionel Messi cemented his GOAT status with a stunning hat-trick for Argentina against Algeria, drawing level with Miroslav Klose as the all-time top scorer in World Cup history. Not to be outdone, Kylian Mbappé burst into life in the second half for France with two goals, while Harry Kane and Erling Haaland also bagged braces to get up and running.

It wasn’t all about the favourites, though… Cape Verde defied the odds to hold European Champions Spain, leaving a massive 861 of you disappointed after backing La Roja 👀. Meanwhile, DR Congo pulled off a similar result against Portugal, proving once again that there are no easy games on the world stage. ⚽⚽

⚽ Across the opening fixtures, there were 75 goals in 24 matches, giving us a tournament average of 3.1 goals per game. That sets a projected total of 325 goals by the end of the competition. ⚽

🎯 A quick reminder — that goal prediction could be absolutely crucial later on, especially if we end up with a tie at the top of any leaderboard. At the minute, there are just 8 entrants across all 5 competitions (from 1075 entries!) who have predicted that exact total… so you’re in a very strong early position if that’s you!
