Keeping perspective is always a winner. Jessy Leyrolles O Connor does it with immense humility and integrity x
“This coming September, I’m taking on a major challenge: cycling up Mont Ventoux with the association *Ventoux contre Cancer*. The goal? To raise funds for their many initiatives. Why this challenge? In September 2023, the road ahead looked much darker. The diagnosis came, and the fight began. But thanks to: • Amazing medical teams, • The power of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery, • Comprehensive support (exercise, conventional medical care), • And above all... so much love from all of you, Today, I am standing tall, alive, and full of gratitude. Pushing my limits for others Reaching the summit is by no means a sure thing for me, but life has taught me that we need to take on challenges—even the craziest ones—to feel truly alive and, most importantly, to support those who are still in the eye of the storm. Every donation, big or small, is a building block for the cause. "Alone we go faster; together we go higher." On this road to recovery, I have sadly lost dear friends along the way, and I know others are still suffering—physically and emotionally—right now. As I climb this peak, I will carry their names and their courage with me. Your contribution will help me turn my sadness into action and my gratitude into hope for everyone still fighting. Thank you in advance for being part of this chain of solidarity and for your support, encouragement, and generosity. See you at the summit! 🚴♀️ P.S. Donations are processed via Alvarum. It’s very easy and 100% secure.”

Our holiday week to was brilliant. Never burned too many matches at once and kept plenty dry for the forthcoming Tor des Geants in 3 weeks. The goal is simple enough. Finish within the 150 hour cut off. There’s nothing to achieve apart from that . The weather is turning steadily in the Alps so that will be a factor in how the terrain is going.

28 days. A lot can be completed in 28 days. Whatever is completed will contribute to the state of health, mind and body. In my case it is the Start line to Tor des Geants. For others it will be preparing for a normal weekly work schedule whilst juggling new school routines and establishing a balanced positive food plan. (put your 28 day start line target here)
One motivator to having a race is the attention to detail on what is happening now. A level of focus on today, knowing it will support arriving at the start line in 28 days.
Perhaps the increased uptake of 'competitive' arenas ( / / is helping to draw more people into looking after themselves today rather than delaying positive action for tomorrow?
One daily question that is common place in my vocabulary as choices present themselves is "will this serve me and those around me?" . I found myself yearning to head out the door last night for an overnight set. As the day passed and got to evening, it was case of reflecting on what was a physical day, a hot day, and asking the question. "Will it serve me and add benefit?" The resounding answer was 'No'... and all was well.
Here I am today, full of sleep, excited and driven to get out there this evening to kickstart the final block of training which will accumulate approx 60 miles and 30,000ft in the coming 10 days.
28 days. What sits at the line in 28 days for you? Is it driving patient, positive and productive lifestyle decisions today? Will those actions serve you and those closest to you in the long run?
Going hard has its benefits. Being patient is hard.

training has been heading in a positive direction. A night time visit to to add more base to this ballad! A waining moon 🌙 lit the way at 03:30 as I headed up the Storey arms path to CornDu. There was a huge crowd that had made the trek to get the sunrise from . To be fair, it was a cracker, and I enjoyed taking it on Jacob’s Ladder with a peaceful breeze keeping me cool. The first set was 3 hours, 11 miles before having a 20 min refresh at the car. The second set of 4 hours I took a couple of extra drops. The pace is still too high but when it feels so comfortable and easy going slower can be agitating to keeping a positive flow , especially downhill. The legs did save well, the climbs were unbroken . The altitude generator and iron supplements are certainly adding to the physiological ease . In total 26.2 miles with 11,000ft of climb, which of course also means 11,000ft of downhill. Keep getting up, getting out and getting it done. Who knows where it might lead you

Field of dreams
Have you watched the fantasy drama starring Kevin Costner? The stand out line for me was “if you build it they will come” . Bear with me, I’m going somewhat on a tangent with this.
This line has helped forge part of my outlook on many things.
In relation to training and competition it rings true. In that regard , if I am consistent in training, the results will come. Build the layers and the response will come.
Do you have an experience of developing and implementing all that was necessary, not quite sure that the outcome would get the desired outcome , but doing all in your power to stay the course anyway? Then, eventually, able to look back and see that what you set out to do, did materialise ?
It’s a long shot to tie the ‘field of dreams’ to the endeavours required to go after leisurely goals. What is all this activity, racing, training and data collection about if not just a visual reality of our leisure? Strava can be The graveyard of dreams 😂😂😂 Gary Robbins famous YouTube documentary “where dreams go to die” captures perfectly the level of emotional, physical and financial investment one must be prepared to invest in a hunch, a feeling, a dream.
We all have ‘dreams’. No matter how mad the idea, the hunch, the dream, history speaks positively about those who acted upon it. Especially for those that failed. It’s the foundation of what we all need to experience to get to the point of truly doing what is necessary to succeed.
If you build it they will come.
If you build it , it will come.
If you build it, it might never happen, but the process will contribute to the success of trying for the next dream.
Best for the week ahead
Rich
