With GCSE results just around the corner, we catch up with Jo to find out what he loved most about the last year with his Rockley College students, and what he's looking forward to in September.

"Rockley has offered me countless opportunities to challenge and develop myself both professionally and personally. Joining the college team and working in an education environment has been incredible - from learning how to best assist in the classroom, to helping students develop their practical skills on the water.

"Next year, I look forward to taking the challenge one step further as I start to lead my own classroom modules! I am thoroughly looking forwards to imparting my knowledge to the classes and coming up with my own strategies for keeping the coursework fun and engaging. Here's to another year of saying yes to challenges, pushing yourself one step further and doing the best I can!"

College Safeguarding and Administrator Sophie, tells us what has been her standout moments from last year.

"When I think back over this year, it's not the paperwork or meetings that stand out - it's the moments. Walking with students through the Purbecks, spending a day sailing around Poole Harbour, chatting, laughing, and seeing them challenge themselves outside the classroom. Those experiences remind you that education is about so much more than qualifications.

"The biggest privilege though, has been watching the students who started with me last September grow into confident and independent young adults. They've found their voices, supported each other, and become their own people. Seeing that transformation has been genuinely rewarding, and it's the reason I love being part of this college."

Curriculum Manager and windsurf lover, Jake Williams reflects on his first year at Rockley College and is already looking forward to welcoming a new cohort of students this September.

“This past year has flown by! It’s amazing to look back at the year and think about the number of achievements, and just how many different experiences we’ve managed to squeeze in - whether that's trips, activities, or professional development opportunities. All the students have been fantastic and have embraced every challenge that has come with participating in an Outdoor course, including those who had little experience in the outdoors before starting with Rockley.

"Next year is already shaping up to be even bigger and better. There really aren’t many Further Education courses like Rockley College out there, and the effort all the staff put in to ensure all learners have a memorable and enjoyable experience with us, is just astounding. It’s more than a college course, it's a community of people with a shared interest and passion for the outdoors.”

As we reach the end of another academic year, Mark, who has been a teacher at Rockley College for nearly eight years, reflects on the best aspects of his job.

"Although much of my job role is inside the classroom with the students, the highlights for me are always the days when I get to see the students out of the classroom setting and showing the skills and knowledge that they have developed during their time with us. These include running school sessions at Bryanston School for the Dorset Leadership Academy, when working with Rockley staff at the Dorset School Games and when completing work experience at each of our centres."

Huge congratulations to Helena and Freya for passing their RYA Dinghy Instructor course last week. A perfect end to their first year at Rockley College!
