Ponteland Girls’ Teams Roundup
Another brilliant weekend for Ponteland Girls Football
Across the teams there was a great mix of big wins, hard fought draws, cup drama and performances full of determination. Whatever the result, the reports show the same themes coming through again and again - hard work, teamwork, resilience and girls enjoying their football.
⚔️ Ponteland Warriors U8
Warriors put in a dominant display to beat Whitley Bay Lionesses. After Whitley Bay defended well early on, Ponteland soon found their rhythm and took a strong lead into half time. The girls continued to play with the same intensity after the break, despite playing into the wind, keeping their shape and doing their jobs brilliantly. Harper was outstanding, scoring a hat-trick and showing real determination to play on after taking a knock.
🔥 Ponteland Phoenix U9
A brilliant start to the season for the newly formed Phoenix, beating Whitley Bay Pumas. The girls played some excellent football, with good passing moves leading to some great team goals, while the midfield worked hard to support the defence. They tired towards the end and allowed Whitley Bay back into the game, but overall it was a very encouraging first league outing. Georgia marked her debut with a goal and earned the manager’s trophy for her efforts.
✨ Ponteland Swifts U9
A victory for Swifts against Heaton Stans Reds, with the girls producing another confident performance despite the windy conditions. Edie was on the scoresheet within seconds and went on to score more, with Amira adding a further goals. The girls played with a great combination of confidence, calmness and determination, while Connie was recognised for her performance in goal.
✈️ Ponteland Jets U11
Jets produced an excellent victory over Killingworth Blues in a performance that was a real pleasure to watch. They controlled the game brilliantly, patiently keeping possession and moving the ball around, with Ella opening the scoring after combining with Scarlett. Grace added a long-range effort before Ella scored again following a superb passing move, and Fifi completed the scoring with an instinctive finish. Grace was deservedly named Player of the Game after an excellent all-round performance.
🐾 Ponteland Pumas U11
Despite a defeat to Whitley Bay Lionesses, Pumas showed once again that they can compete with the top sides. They started brilliantly, pressing high and taking an early lead through Mollie, before an unlucky combination of goals — including two direct from corners affected by the wind — went against them. The attitude remained excellent throughout, with Harriet putting in another strong defensive performance and doing a great job in goal in the second half.
🔴 Ponteland Crusaders U11
A superb victory for Crusaders against Hexham, with the girls producing a high-energy performance from start to finish. They pressed relentlessly, particularly from goal kicks, and worked incredibly hard to keep Hexham pinned back. Bea led the scoring, while Martha, Neve and Florence also found the net. Bea’s movement and finishing earned the manager’s award, while Martha was recognised by the opposition after a tireless midfield display.
🐆 Ponteland Jaguars U12
Jaguars picked up their first point of the season in an entertaining 3–3 draw with Whitley Bay Tigers. They started brilliantly and raced into a 2–0 lead before Whitley Bay fought back to level. Despite falling 3–2 behind with 15 minutes left, the girls kept pushing and earned a deserved equaliser through Tillie. Elise impressed in goal after volunteering for the role, while Annabel was a rock defensively.
🔴 Ponteland Crusaders U12
Crusaders battled brilliantly to earn a 1–1 draw against a strong North Shields side in difficult, windy conditions. Defensively they were excellent in the first half, particularly playing into the wind, and showed real organisation and physicality. After North Shields took the lead, Lucia responded quickly with an excellent finish to level the game, with Ponteland creating further chances late on. Sadie again impressed in defence to earn Coaches’ Player of the Match, while Ellie stepped into goal and produced a great performance.
🟣 Ponteland Pride U12
A really impressive 5–1 win for Pride against North Shields after a closely fought first half. The girls showed patience despite some frustrating offside decisions, before pulling away in the second half. The biggest positive was the determination and work rate throughout the team, with Elodie, Caitlin and Izz all earning special praise for their performances. A thoroughly deserved victory and a great team effort.
⚡ Ponteland Thunder U13
Thunder produced a determined and professional 4–0 victory over Wylam, particularly impressive given they started with just eight players. They dominated possession and territory, with Grace causing constant problems and Emma controlling the midfield. Special credit to Ayda, Izzy and Jessica, who stepped in as the ninth player despite already playing earlier in the day for Pride u12. A fantastic effort from the whole team.
🐆 Ponteland Wildcats U14
Wildcats progressed to the next round of the League Cup after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Wallsend. They were dominant for large parts of the game, particularly in the first half, and Lucy broke the deadlock with a superb finish. Wallsend levelled against the run of play, but Wildcats continued to play their football and defended strongly, with Abi making several excellent saves. The girls then showed tremendous composure from the spot, eventually winning 5–4 on penalties, with the captain calmly converting the decisive kick.
