The Royal Western Yacht Club is looking for part-time bar staff to join our friendly team! 🍻

We’re looking for someone who:
🍹 Has previous bar experience
🍳 Is happy with some simple cooking
😊 Enjoys providing great service to our members and guests
📅 Can work weekdays, evenings and/or weekends
⚓️ Is reliable, friendly and happy working as part of a team

Due to lone working and late-night shifts, applicants must be 21+.

A LITTLE FOOD SERVICE UPDATE 🍽️

Due to staff holidays, we’re sorry to let members know that there will be no food service this Tuesday.

For the remainder of the week, we’ll be operating with a very limited menu, so please bear with us while the team is running on reduced staffing.

Unfortunately, there will also be no Friday Night Club Night this week.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support while our team takes some well-deserved time off. 💙

IN THE WAKE OF CHICHESTER ⛵️

Join us at the Royal Western Yacht Club on Wednesday 26th August at 1830hrs as we welcome John Passmore and mark the start of his incredible challenge to follow in the wake of Sir Francis Chichester.

John will set sail from Plymouth Sound at midday on Thursday 27th August — exactly 60 years to the day since Chichester’s departure from Plymouth.

🚤 On Thursday morning, a flotilla led by the RNLI lifeboat and Cattewater Harbour pilot boat will es**rt John from Mayflower Marina, along the Hoe and to the club before he heads for the Breakwater and begins his voyage.

At Wednesday’s reception, Commodore Chris Arscott will welcome John as a new member of the club and present him with a Royal Western burgee to fly during his voyage.

All members are welcome to join us and wish John fair winds for this remarkable adventure. 🌊⛵️

Susan Toyn is helping John Passmore (Old Man Sailing) get ready for his little “pop to Australia” — following in the footsteps of Sir Francis Chichester. He’s heading out from Plymouth Sound on Thursday as you hopefully will be aware!

He’s asked them to find wedding/Christmas/boiled fruit cake — you know, the sort that lasts longer than most marriages.

Anyone know where they can get one or find a baker ?

IN THE WAKE OF CHICHESTER

On Thursday 27th August veteran long distance solo sailor John Passmore who is a former foreign correspondent will depart Plymouth mid-morning aboard his Rival 32, Samsara, to attempt to emulate Sir Francis Chichester’s 1966-1967 circumnavigation.
This will be 60 years to the day that Sir Francis Chichester left on his epic voyage.
We are organizing a flotilla of boats to join John on his departure from Mayflower Marina between 10.00 hrs & 10.30 hrs. The flotilla will es**rt John along the Hoe to the Royal Western Yacht Club, where Club members can gather on the balcony, to wish him well on his epic adventure.
The Club will host a reception for him on Wednesday 26th at 18.30 hrs to mark the occasion and to offer him Club membership and present him with a Club burgee, which hopefully he will fly on his trip. We will be joined at the reception by the Lord Mayor. All Club members are invited to the reception.

Sunday saw the start of the Fastnet 500

IMOCA 60 Super Bigou just after the start.
This boat was formerly owned by Pip Hare when it was called Medallia which she competed in the Vendee Globe around the world race.

Well, that’s it for another year! 🎆

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported the club while watching the fireworks. It was lovely to see the club so busy and full of atmosphere! ❤️

And a special shoutout to Ben for keeping me supplied with photos while I’m all the way up in Alaska running the page! 🙈📸
