CORONATION TROPHY CHAMPIONS!

Congratulations to our Gents Coronation Trophy team, who were victorious against Perth Artisans in Saturday’s final to become regional tournament champions.

The Coronation Trophy is an annual Perth & Kinross County Golf Union Amateur Team Matchplay competition, with this year’s final taking place at Gleneagles Golf Club.

Representing Pitlochry were:

Stephen Carruthers, Jamie Burrows, W***y Hutton, Greg Carruthers, Cameron Shaw, Michael Storey and Jason Hawkins.

It was a tense, hard-fought final against strong opposition, but with plenty of fellow Pitlochry members there supporting from the sidelines, the team held their nerve and won two of the three matches to secure a superb victory.

A fantastic achievement for the players and a very proud moment for Pitlochry Golf Club.

Congratulations, gentlemen. Coronation Trophy Champions!

It’s fantastic to see some of our Juniors getting out on the course, enjoying their golf and developing their game.

The weather was excellent and the course was in great condition, making for a fantastic day of golf and good company.

𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗪𝗢𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗗 𝗪𝗛𝗬 𝗜𝗧’𝗦 𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗗 𝗕𝗥𝗨𝗖𝗘’𝗦 𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞-𝗢𝗨𝗧?

Bruce’s Look-out has been part of Pitlochry Golf Club’s story for well over a century.

The club’s 1913 guide lists the 8th hole as Bruce’s Look-out and gives a fascinating clue to the story behind its name.

The guide tells us that a golf hole stood where “Bruce placed his weary sentinel” connecting this part of the course with a story associated with Robert the Bruce.

Today, you don't need to be standing watch to appreciate the view.

Another little piece of history beneath our feet and another reminder that

𝗔 𝗦𝗖𝗢𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗗 𝗡𝗔𝗠𝗘... 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗔 𝗥𝗢𝗬𝗔𝗟 𝗕𝗔𝗖𝗞𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬

Queen Mary’s Rest is one of Pitlochry Golf Club’s most fascinating hole names.

The club’s 1913 guide records the story of Mary Queen of Scots stopping to rest in this area while travelling through Atholl.

During the stop, the Queen called for her harp — only to discover that some of its strings were broken.

The guide later explains that a golf hole was positioned to mark the place associated with her rest.

More than a century later, the name 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆’𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁 remains part of the course.

History, local tradition and golf, all meeting in one place.
