Two weeks on Annual Training Exercise with 510 Specialist Team Royal Engineers done and dusted! 🛠️🇬🇧

A brilliant fortnight balancing core soldiering with specialist air infrastructure engineering. A few standout moments:

🌲 Back to basics: Kicking off in the woods blowing off the cobwebs with fieldcraft, tactical load-carries, and infantry skills.
🚜 Airfield Damage Repair & USAF Joint Ops: Getting into ADR doctrine to make airfields more survivable in conflict. Hands-on time operating heavy plant equipment with the USAF team at RAF Feltwell was a massive highlight.
🚂 Mid-ex breather: A quick R&R stop to check out the local steam railway at Nene Valley!
✈️ RAF Coningsby & Live Air Ops: Joining the Regulars for the Air Support Course, topped off by an incredible visit to RAF Coningsby. Up-close with Eurofighter Typhoons, watching live launches, and getting a behind-the-scenes look at airspace management right from the Control Tower.
🏛️ Full circle history: Wrapping up at the station Heritage Museum comparing vintage airframes with modern combat air capabilities.

Great to get stuck in, train hard, and bond with brilliant Reserve colleagues across all ranks. Officially a tired teddy.. need to recharge for the day job! 🔋

Most of you know me for the bikes, but that’s only part of the story. Between being an Aeronautical Engineer and a Major in the Royal Engineers, my life is a constant balancing act of high-stakes engineering, military service, and racing.

We were absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to share our story of last year’s 8-week adventure to the Balkans at the ABR this weekend.

It was a pleasure to see so many join the talk in the Travelers Tales tent. Thank you for the insightful questions and to those of you who came to chat to us afterwards or whilst we’re walking around.

It means the world to us to hear we’ve inspired you and encouraged some to have an adventure of your own. 🏍️🌄

With a little bit of planning, a savings plan and creative thinking, anything is possible. It doesn’t have to be 8 weeks, and you don’t have to cross continents to have an adventure. Work with what you have available and push yourself just a little bit out of your comfort zone.

If you have the will, you can do it!
