๐Ÿ Summer Skill Spotlight โ€“ Week 3 โœจ Solo Drill: Landing practise. If youโ€™re feeling fit and well, hereโ€™s our third summer skill. You just need a bouncy ball and a wall.

๐Ÿ” Why it matters: Good landing technique keeps you balanced and helps prevent injuries.

๐Ÿ“ How to do it:
โ€ข Face a wall and throw the ball above your head.
โ€ข As it rebounds, jump upwards to catch it and land on two feet, slightly wider than hip width. ๐Ÿ”คVariations: (a) Land on one foot instead of two; (b) Catch the ball, turn in the air, and land facing a new direction.
โš ๏ธAlways bend your knee(s) when you land.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Please tell us how you get on ๐Ÿ˜Š.

๐Ÿ Summer Solo Skill Spotlight โ€“ Week 2 โœจ Solo Drill: Agility & Fast Feet!
๐Ÿ’ช๐ŸปIf you are feeling physically fit and well, hereโ€™s our second solo drill for us to try over the summer break before the new term begins.
๐Ÿ” Why this drill? Agility and fast feet make you quicker on court; helping with quick direction changes, and controlled stops.
โšฝ๐Ÿ”บAll you need is a ball that bounces, a safe driveway or patio, and a marker like a cone or other stable object.

๐Ÿ“ How to do it (also see pictures below):
โ€ข Place your cone or marker 1โ€“2 metres to the right side of you. โ€ข Drop the ball from chest height. โ€ข Stay on your toes, side step or side skip to touch the cone, then return to catch the ball. โ€ข Try to get back before the ball bounces too many times.

๐Ÿ’กVariations: โ€ข Move the cone further away. โ€ข Repeat the drill with the cone on your left side.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Tell us how you get on ๐Ÿ˜€.

As promised, something we can easily practise at home during the summer break ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป!

๐Ÿ Summer Solo Skills Spotlight โ€“ Week 1: Proprioception and core stability.
๐Ÿ” Why it matters: Balance and coordination improvements during netball landing and take-off.

๐Ÿ“ How to do it:
Step 1: Stand on one leg and circle the ball around your waist.
Step 2: Stay on one leg and move the ball around the front of your raised, bent knee.
Step 3: Switch legs and repeat the sequence.
Tip: If balancing is difficult, work for short intervals and build up gradually.

๐Ÿ“ธ See with Gilbert on YouTube; this drill is demonstrated in the first part of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxfQDty53g8 ๐Ÿ’ช

The school summer holidays are here, but that doesn't mean our netball has to take a break! Over the summer weโ€™ll be sharing some fun, easy solo drills we can do at home to stay active, build confidence, and be ready to hit the ground running in September.

To join in, you'll just need a size 5 netball. If you're thinking of getting one, here are a few great options:

โœจ Gilbert APT Training Ball โ€“ brilliant grip and super durable.
โœจ Gilbert Phoenix Match Ball โ€“ closer to the feel of our club balls.
โœจ Mitre Oasis โ€“ tough and ideal for garden or driveway practice.

Any of these are perfect for practising our catching, passing, footwork and ball handling.

๐Ÿ‘€ Keep an eye on the page โ€“ our first solo drill will be landing soon! We'd love to see you joining in, so share your practice videos and photos with us and inspire everyone else along the way! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ
