We’ve got more breaking news from the Welsh Championships: another Welsh Champion in the ranks! 🎾

A huge congratulations to Charlie Newman, who has achieved an incredible quadruple, winning both singles and doubles in the 14U and 16U categories 🏆🏆🏆🏆

To cap a memorable week he’s also received confirmation of his call-up to represent Team Wales at the upcoming Four Nations event! 🏴

A huge congratulations from everyone at the club to Ophelia Hunkin, who today became the Welsh 11 & Under Girls’ Champion.

Ophelia produced some fantastic tennis at the Championships being held all week at Bridgend, winning her way through every round in straight sets to take the title.

A massive congratulations to Ophelia and her lead coach Rob Gaunt.

Ophelia is one of many of our junior club members competing at the Championships this week, and we’re incredibly proud of every single one of them. We’ll share a full roundup of everyone’s achievements once the tournament comes to an end on the weekend.

🏆 JNR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS 2026

We’re super excited to be taking entries for this year’s Junior Club Championships, taking place over the weekend of 12th–13th September.

We’ve got events for all ages, with plenty of tennis across the weekend, including:

👫 Doubles
🏆 Mixed Doubles
🎉 Plus our annual Awards Night on Sunday evening!

The Junior Championships are for members only, and the sign-up form has now been sent to all parents via email and WhatsApp.

🏆 TROPHY HOLDERS! If you were lucky enough to win one of our legacy trophies last year, please don’t forget to get it engraved, give it a good polish and return it to the club by the end of the summer holidays. We’ve got dozens of trophies, shields and medals to sort through ready for this year’s tournament, so getting them back on time is a huge help!

Our Tennis Xpress course is designed especially for adult beginners and those we affectionately call “rusty rackets” – players who haven’t picked up a racket for years.

📅 Tuesdays at 6pm
🎾 6-week course starting at the beginning of September
🙌 Non-members very welcome
🎾 All equipment provided

Using low-compression balls and smaller spaces, we’ll help you learn to serve, rally and score in a fun, interactive and rally-based environment.

🚫 No standing in queues
🚫 No rock-hard tennis balls flying past you
🚫 No previous experience needed!

The course has also been carefully scheduled just before our weekly Adult Social Mix-In, so we’re hoping it might be the start of the journey for a few future club members too! 👀🎾

After the six weeks we’ll take a break for winter, with the aim of making Tennis Xpress a regular session again in the spring.

We're excited to announce that bookings are now open for our brand-new Reception Tennis Group.

🗓 Thursdays
⏰ 5:00–5:45pm
🎾 Led by our Head of 10U Performance, Rob Gaunt, and his team of LTA-qualified coaching assistants.

This is the perfect introduction to tennis, with fun, engaging sessions designed specifically for Reception-aged children. Players will develop agility, balance, coordination and the fundamental skills of tennis in a friendly, supportive environment. Blue stage tennis has been the starting point for many club members who have gone onto great things, including some playing internationally!

🎾 Here's a blast from the past! 🎾

Take a look at this photo from our 2014 Junior Awards Night! It's fantastic to see that so many of these players are still part of our tennis club today – now as young adults. Watching our juniors grow up through the club is something we're incredibly proud of.

📅 Save the date! Our 2026 Junior Club Championships & Awards Weekend will take place on 12th–13th September.

Junior members and parents, keep an eye out as entry forms will be released very soon.

The weekend will include:
🎾 Singles & doubles competitions for ages 8U–18U
🏆 A fun weekend both on and off the court
🎉 Our annual Awards Night on Sunday, where we'll present our championship trophies along with a range of special awards recognising sportsmanship, volunteering and outstanding contributions to the club.

This year's tournament is being coordinated by Ellie, and we'd love to hear from anyone willing to help over the weekend. If you can lend a hand, please drop us an email.

A reminder has also been sent to all of our 2025 legacy trophy winners. Please could you arrange to have your trophies engraved, cleaned, polished and returned by the end of term. Once the summer holidays begin, trophies can be difficult to track down, which makes preparations for Awards Night much more challenging.

We're really looking forward to another spectacular weekend of tennis and celebrations. More information will be shared soon via our junior parent email and WhatsApp channels.
