As the only ladies team within the SWF pyramid to play in Paisley we are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help us grow our girls and ladies section. Following a succesful start to our season the Ladies first team are looking to grow our presence and following within the town and encourage more sponsorship to help grow women’s football within Paisley and the surrounding areas.

If you have something to offer that can support our ladies, recreational group or youth section then please get in touch and be part of something special.

Airdrie 5-4 Gleniffer Thistle (After Extra Time)

A bright but windy day in Airdrie saw two different styles but two evenly matched teams go at each other in an end to end match. Gleniffer pressed all over the pitch and Airdrie played out keeping the ball well although it was Gleniffer who took the lead through a good finish from Cara McInally. They then go found themselves 2-0 up when a through ball found Tasha Marshall who finished first time with her left foot. Airdrie though continued to play well and a cross from their right hand side illuded the Gleniffer defence and was forced home to make it 2-1 at half time.

With the wind in the second half Airdrie started brightly but Gleniffer still working hard all over the pitch stole the ball in midfield and found Cara McInally who once again finished really well to put Gleniffer 3-1 ahead. The game continued to swing from end to end with Airdrie scoring again to make the score 3-2. Cara McInally was then denied her hat trick by a great save from the Airdrie keeper. As the game went into the 90th minute Airdrie won a corner and a great delivery in on top of the goalkeeper created a scramble in front of goal and Airdrie forced home the equaliser. The drama didn’t stop there though as into injury time as Airdrie pressed for a winner a mis-timed challenge from Gleniffer goalkeeper Leigh Skelton resulted in a straight red card and Marianna Bottiglieri having to take over in goal. The resultant free kick sailed over the bar and at full time it was 3-3.

Into extra time and Airdrie with their tails up scored two quick fire goals in extra time and took a 5-3 lead but the 10 players of Gleniffer never gave up and when Hannah Cameron scored another amazing free kick from about 35 yards her second of the season it gave Gleniffer a boost to try and get the equaliser but sadly it didn’t come and Airdrie won 5-4. No disgrace in pushing a League 1 side all the way. We wish Airdrie the best of luck for the next round and the rest of their season.

A lot of heart shown out there today from every player but today’s player of the match for a solid and competitive performance is Hannah Colquhoun. We move onto league action now and look to get back to winning ways.
