Last year, we teamed up with our friends at Flo's - The Place in the Park to deliver cycle training for mums and kids as part of an Equal Start Oxford community project. Equal Start Oxford is a community project responding to inequalities in access, experience and outcomes faced by Black and minoritised women & birthing people (those from the global majority) living in OX4.
Led by an all-female team of instructors, the sessions offered a welcoming, supportive space for local mums and children to build cycling confidence and skills.
We are so pleased to have partnered with Flo's The Place in the Park again this August to deliver more of these sessions, with funding secured by Flo's from Active Travel, and Broken Spoke providing the bikes and trainers, as well as some basic bike maintenance training, such as puncture repair.
12 mums and children joined us in the peaceful surroundings of Florence Park for friendly, confidence-building cycle training. It was brilliant to see everyone grow in confidence, practise new skills and build stronger road awareness together. 🚲💛
A huge thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the sessions happen. It was a joy to meet so many keen cyclists and to support more people in our community to feel confident on two wheels. 😀

Beryl’s Night has been part of Broken Spoke since the very beginning. Launched in 2012 with community funding and volunteer support, this monthly social workshop was created as a welcoming space for women, trans and non-binary people to build confidence, learn bike maintenance skills and feel more at home in the cycling world. 🚲
Join us on the first Thursday of every month (6.30pm-8.30pm) for a relaxed, friendly evening of fixing, learning, sharing skills and meeting new people — no judgement, just good company and bikes. Oh and cake of course! 🍰
Book online or turn up and pay on the night! To learn more about the sessions coming up please see our website: https://www.bsbcoop.org/beryls-night
We hope to see you there!

Flat tyre? Don’t let it derail your day
We know how frustrating a puncture can be, especially when you’ve got places to be. That’s why we’re now offering same-day puncture repairs at the workshop.
No booking needed; just pop in Monday to Friday, any time during our opening hours (9-5pm) and we’ll get you rolling again. The earlier you arrive the better to secure a same day slot! 😃
Simply leave your bike with us and it will be ready to collect by 4.30pm the same day, all ready to ride. If the workshop is especially busy and we’ve reached capacity for that day, we will let you know and you may have to come back the next day.
