The Oxford Rules of Beer Pong. Rule 1: Save the Beer. Drink the beer. An Explanation of a Standard Oxford Rules Doubles Match.
A few years ago a group of students studying in Oxford heard about a game adapted from that of the American Beer Pong, over the course of a year they transformed the simple lightweight game into the game of champions as it is today! Ten cups, of Red Cup standard, are to be arranged in a pyramid formation on the beer pong table - as this is underground Oxford Rules Beer Pong we don't want you selli
ng out and spending hundreds of pounds on a table, here we play on flat wooden doors. (These can be found anywhere around your house, or in nearby skips/fly tipping spots.) Next, take two cans per team and fill those cups - empty cans are to be placed in the middle of the table/door in order to form a "Wall of Hades" which once complete shall have lit candles running along it to make shots even harder! (This wall is to be added to every game for the entire night until there is no room left on said table/door.) To decide which team begins the game one person will hide a ball behind their back, then when both of their hands are placed at their side the other team guess - If it's correct they begin, if not then the team hiding the balls does. Both players throw, this can be done at the same time or not, if the balls go in, the other team drinks. It is important to note if the other team do not remove a cup with a ball in it quickly enough and second ball goes in that same cup the rule of "Two Balls One Cup" is enforced. (This is like the holy grail shot, it immediately ends the game and the throwing team win!)
If both balls go in, but in different cups, then the throwing team receive another complete go! Near the beginning of a night - when the Wall of Hades is fairly small - then it is often possible to bounce a shot off the table and then into a cup, if this happens the other team must remove a second cup of their choosing and drink that aswell! (However, after the ball has bounced once on the table/door the defending team can - and should - bat it away.) Leaning - This is like the offside rule in football, the idea is that a player when throwing should stand in line with the table and not visibly lean forward to gain unfair advantage. It is however - often with people with long arms - hard to tell and so the audience/rabble of drunken observers are able to decide. (Note this rule is relaxed with the intention to create positive drunken banter.) Reformations - Each team is only allowed to reform once during each game and this must be done at the beginning of their turn. Suicide Cups - If a player knocks over one of his own cups at any time, or accidentally drops a ball in one he must drink it immediately. Style shots - Style shots are shots that go in when a player is blindfolded, hits the ball first off a wall/ceiling etc... Whatever is generally accepted to be stylish. Cups on the Edge of the Table/Door - Cups can be pushed back onto the table/door if partly over the edge to the width of 1 inch (a thumb) in order to save possible spillage. THE NAKED LAP - When a player goes an entire game without getting a single ball in a single cup out of pure shame they must strip down and do a lap of the Beer Pong table/door. THUGGG RULES - These can be called at any time and means that any side beers which are present must be drank before the player is allowed to throw their next ball.
