Henley Women’s Regatta 2026

Last weekend the W1 went to Henley to compete in the time trials for HWR. Whilst they ultimately did not qualify, they were the fastest Oxford college in their category and enjoyed the opportunity to round off a fantastic season with one last race in the sun as a crew.

Summer Eights 2026:

The M1 regained headship in the 700th year of Oriel, and the M2 maintained their place as the highest M2 on the river going -1 in Div 2.

No bumps were gained against any women’s boats this year. The W1 went +2 in Div 1, finishing 9th on the river. The W2 went +2, finishing at the top of Div 4 and battling it out as sandwich boat for two days in a row. The W3 went +5, with an overbump in the second day of racing, also achieving the first W3 bump since 2019.

Outstanding results from all the rowers involved this year, bring on Torpids ‘27!

making sure we always cross the line first and with appropriate style.

Our six crews donned their traditional ‘sh*t kit’ earlier this week for their last outing before Summer Eights. Come down to the boathouse from Wednesday(today!) to Saturday to support at the following times:

M5 - Div 6, 13:15
W3 - Div 6, 13:45
W2 - Div 4, 15:45
M2 - Div 2, 17:15
M1 - Div 1, 18:15
W1 - Div 1, 18:45

Note that times are the same as shown above on Weds-Fri but are one hour earlier on Saturday.

Wallingford Regatta 2026

Last weekend the TorpHeads M1 made the trip down to asunny Dorney Lake for some side by side racing with other clubs from across the country. Although the crew didn’t make it out of the heats, they put together a solid performance, setting a time of 6:24 and getting some good experience all round. This was great preparation for the run into what will be a very exicitng Eights, and we hope to see as many of you there as possible.

Unfortunately, due to picnic spot restrictions at Henley Royal Regatta, we are unable to host our annual Boat Club picnic in Lion Meadows on Saturday 14th August, to coincide with the Oriel Alumni weekend. We would love to host everyone to see the excellent rennovations to the boathouse, generously funded by a donation from Chris Mahoney, and we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible there

Oriel College Boat Club is seeking to appoint a head coach for the men’s senior squad. Oriel has been very successful over the previous few years with our first eight now holding both Torpids and Summer Eights headships. Oriel currently holds the most Torpids and Summer VIIIs headships. Our M2 are now the highest placed 2nd Eight in Summer Eights competing in Division 2 against other college’s first boats. We are based on the Isis in Oxford, and at Wallingford Rowing Club. The season is based around the intercollegiate bumps races in early March and June, with entry to appropriate external regattas.

The successful applicant would lead the training programme of the men’s squad, specifically our M1 and M2 boats, throughout the year on and off the water. This includes a wide range of abilities from complete novices through to Blue Boat athletes. There is the possibility to coach the whole men’s squad – including the novice programme – if an applicant is interested in this.

Time requirements are during term time, and a few weeks outside of term time. During the week, the coach will need to be free several mornings per week (5am – 8am) and for 4-5 hours on both Saturday and Sunday. This will probably shift to afternoon/evenings in the April-June period, but all times are negotiable. To begin in October 2019.

Essential Criteria:
- Experience of coaching at a competitive level
- Experience of designing and enforcing training plans
- Organisational and planning skills
- Able to communicate effectively

Desirable Criteria:
- Ability to coach novice rowers
- Clean driving licence and car
