We are a family-friendly cricket club with adult teams playing in the Northamptonshire Cricket League, Bedforsdhire Sunday League and the Home Counties Women’s league.

Saturday saw the conclusion of the 2026 season for the club and both the 1sts and 2nds had something to play for on the final day.

The 1st team were looking to complete an unbeaten season having already confirmed the Division 3 title. They managed to do this with relative ease securing a 7 wicket victory. We’re out of superlatives to describe the run the team have put together which has seen them record 37 wins and one loss over the last two seasons. The icing on the cake was seeing Jack Deal, Stuart Keeping and Jacob Griffin topping the divisional performance tables for batting, bowling and fielding respectively. But this season has genuinely seen contributions from all who have been part of the squad, a real defining strength.

Next season will see the 1st XI join tier one where coloured kit and mixed formats are introduced. With a young squad of homegrown players we’re looking forward to the new challenge.

The Saturday 2nds had a far more nerve wracking Saturday as they faced a winner takes all clash. Sitting in top spot but also playing 3rd place left them with the tricky scenario of knowing only a win would do. But win they did! After a slow start, there was middle order consolidation before the ‘bomb squad’ were given license. In the field a disciplined display kept the run rate climbing and the Championship was secured. This marks the 2nds third consecutive promotion and is easily the most hard fought. After the first month of the season a relegation battle was on the cards but the perfect mixture of youth and experience saw the team put together an unbeaten run that helped leapfrog those around them.

The 2nds success has been built upon having a large squad which has rotated regularly throughout the season. The fact that several non playing squad members turned up to umpire, score and support demonstrates the real team effort and lack of ego that has been on display all season. A consolidation season is on the cards next year, but then we have said that for the last two!

So it really was a Super Saturday and two league titles caps a perfect season. We’ve said in the previous two weeks that league standings aren’t everything, but if we’re honest they do make the end of season drinks a bit noisier.

Next season sees the addition of a league Saturday 3rd XI alongside our 5 current adult sides. So if you’re interested in a new challenge or getting back into the game drop us a message and we’ll tell you how you can get involved!

The final curtain 🥲

Yes, it really is the last weekend of the cricket season. Five months of cricket ends with our Saturday league sides both in action.

The 1st XI, who have already secured a league title, have the opportunity to go unbeaten this season. We believe it would be the first time in the clubs history this has been achieved. A minibus has been secured for travel to Bowden to ensure their sensational season is celebrated properly.

On to the headline game at the Rec. The 2nd XI sit precariously at the top of the table as they take on 3rd placed Horton House Cricket Club in a winner takes all promotion clash. Both teams can count themselves unfortunate to not already be promoted given their seasons to date. In most other divisions both Olney and Horton would comfortably occupy the promotion places. The return fixture was an absolute classic ending in a tie. We hope tomorrow will bring the same quality.

The bar is open from 12 so please do pop down. Being the last game of the season you may be able to persuade our bar manager to introduce a few clearance deals 😉

In our first Sunday without cricket we’re giving a shout out to our Sunday 2nd XI. They had a tough season on the field but as you can see kept they smiling, fulfilling every fixture and staying positive throughout.

The 2nds are quickly becoming the ‘Dads and lads’ team with multiple parent/child combinations throughout the season. In this photo there are 3 sets!

This is what cricket is all about. You can’t guarantee to win every week but you can make sure you have a laugh and share a beer together after the game.

The 2nds Championship and promotion challenge is guaranteed to go to the final day so a positive result is crucial today.

Not the result we wanted yesterday but it was a fantastic day at the club as two well supported sides battled it out in a quality encounter, showcasing the best of Women’s cricket.

No sour grapes here as our girls lined up to applaud the well deserved Champions! You can’t guarantee to be on the right side of results all the time, but you can make sure you do the right thing. Well done to both teams for embodying the spirit of cricket 👏

This Sunday sees the final game of the Women’s season and it couldn’t be more important as we take on 1st placed Oxford Downs in a clash where the winner will be crowned Divisional Champions. Play starts at 1pm down at the Rec and I’m sure the team will appreciate as much support as possible.

We wanted to celebrate the team ahead of Sundays match because regardless of result they have had a fantastic season.

It would be fair to say that the last 18 months have had their difficulties for the team, with county call ups, injuries and players moving on creating challenges with availability. We had to concede games and rely on parents to regularly fill in gaps. There were even worries about the future of the team!

Fast forward to this season and it’s a completely different story, we have a settled and expanded squad who are putting in quality performances. The target pre-season was to grow the squad so to be competing for top position is a welcome bonus.

The turnaround has been driven by captain Lottie Howkins who saw the potential of her young squad and has worked tirelessly recruiting, coaching and encouraging to push the team to where they are now. A proper leader on and off the field!

All at the club will be backing the Ladies on Sunday whether following online or from the bar and congratulating the team on a fantastic season 👏🍾

After yesterday’s washout, our Saturday 1st XI were confirmed as Champions for the second successive season winning the Division 3 title at the earliest available opportunity. Although the weather put a slight dampener on yesterday there will be plenty of opportunity for on and off field celebrations over the next few weeks.

It really has been a vintage season with the side remaining unbeaten and producing some dominant performances along the way. All of the squad have made significant contributions and every player has played a match winning role at some point. Most pleasingly, the majority of the team has come through our youth set up. Mixed with the experience of our recent additions we hope we have a platform for future success as we face the new challenge of Tier One.

The Saturday 2nds will have to wait right until the end of the season to see the conclusion of their title challenge. After yesterday’s 2nd v 3rd clash also ended in a points shared abandonment they know that if they win their three remaining fixtures they will finish top of the pile, also securing a third successive promotion.

And of course, our Ladies team have their own title aspirations with their winner takes all clash taking place next Sunday. You’ll hear more about that in the week 👀

So over the next three weekends there is only one place to be in Olney. See you in the bar 🍻
