🎨Mount Golgotha by
M. Minoriv (2016) ✝️
oil on canvas height: 180 cm (70.8 in); width: 100 cm (39.3 in)
Jesus hangs on a rough wooden cross with arms outstretched and head tilted upward (looking toward heaven). He wears a crown of thorns and a white loincloth. Blood is visible on his body, hands, side, and dripping down the cross from the nail wounds in his feet. A wooden plaque at the top of the cross bears the traditional “INRI” inscription (Latin abbreviation for “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews”).
On the right, a seated figure in a red robe,
possibly Mary Magdalene.
A human skull lies at the base of the cross (a traditional reference to Golgotha, “the place of the skull,” and to Adam). The rocky ground and sparse setting emphasize the isolation of the scene.
On the left, a standing figure in a long, dark green hooded robe likely the Virgin Mary faces the cross in a posture of mourning or prayer, head bowed.
Background and atmosphere: A turbulent, dark sky with swirling clouds in deep reds, blacks, and muted tones creates a stormy, dramatic effect.

🎨Purple Jesus (1987) by Alex Grey✝️
Alex Grey

20×20” oil on wood
Anatomically transparent Jesus on the cross—skeleton, circulatory system, and bowels visible—eyes closed in resignation, astral light radiating from body and heart, haloed by green, magenta, and blue LSD-like droplets.
Painted as album art for Purple Geezus (Mike Osterhout’s band), house band of the mid-80s punk/performance-art “Church of the Little Green Man” (where Alex & Allyson Grey were bishops). Also shown at SF’s Retrospectacle exhibition (Summer of Love 20th anniversary).
Grey’s visionary work later became iconic on major albums: Tool (Lateralus, 10,000 Days, Fear Inoculum), Nirvana (In Utero), and the Beastie Boys (Ill Communication).
Other Christ works:
• Nuclear Crucifixion (~1980) – from a 1976 vision of Christ rising in an atomic mushroom cloud.
• Christ (1982–85, Sacred Mirrors) – yogi-like Gnostic teacher.
• Cosmic Christ (1999–2000, ~50×102”) – golden web of 100+ human history scenes, Earth as planetary crucifixion becoming a green Gaian Christ-child/Tree of Life.

🩸 The Flagellation of Our Lord Jesus Christ (1880) by William-Adolphe Bouguereau 🎨
completed in 1880 as an oil on canvas measuring approximately 212–310 × 213–309 cm, is a large-scale Academic realist depiction of Christ’s scourging that hangs in the Baptistery of La Rochelle Cathedral in the artist’s hometown.
Commissioned in 1879 by the Société des Amis des Arts de La Rochelle and acquired by them in 1881, the composition centers on a pale, limp, nearly life-size Christ bound by the wrists to a column, his head thrown back, feet dragging, and body marked by suffering as two executioners raise their whips mid-stroke while a third kneels to bind birch branches (with a possible fourth preparing more) and a surrounding crowd of onlookers reacts variously—curiosity, averted eyes (a child pressed against his mother), or sympathy (a baby held aloft on a father’s shoulders)—with a bearded figure who may be a self-portrait locking eyes with the viewer to draw the audience into the scene.
Bouguereau, a devout Catholic who treated religious painting as a form of worship of God and humanity.
the work showcases his mastery of anatomy, idealized yet naturalistic forms, dramatic lighting and shadow, and emotional intensity.

🎨 Nathan Greene ✝️
Nathan Greene Nathan Greene
Born in Michigan in 1961,began drawing as a young child and entered professional illustration work in 1983 after studying at Chicago’s American Academy of Art; by the early 1990s his career shifted fully toward Christian fine art with landmark commissions such as The Family of God and Chief of the Medical Staff.
His luminous, detailed realist oil paintings (and occasional watercolors) focus on portraying Jesus Christ with kindness, strength, and compassion in biblical scenes, healing miracles, medical settings, and contemporary life.
Signature works include the twelve-painting Healing Miracles series for Loma Linda University, the Days of Creation, The Good Shepherd, The Lamb of God, Gethsemane, The Crucifixion, The Resurrection, and tender images of Christ holding a black lamb.
Through careful composition, balanced light and color, and emotionally direct storytelling, Greene’s faith-inspired art seeks to reveal God’s love and offer hope, treating the work itself as a ministry.

🖼️The Garden of Eden with the Fall of Man or The Earthly Paradise with the Fall of Adam and Eve (ca. 1615) by Peter Paul Rubens and Jan Brueghel 🍎
housed in the Mauritshuis (Mauritshuis) art museum in The Hague , Netherlands.
The painting depicts the moment just before the consumption of forbidden fruit
The scene is a reference to Genesis 2:8–14 and hosts a variety of animals, Since Adam has yet to commit the original sin, these creatures all live in harmony – a cow peacefully watches while two large cats play. Birds of Paradise are also painted with a scientific accuracy.
The monkey next to Adam is the hotspur who cannot resist temptation, while the choleric cat near Eve’s heels represents cruel cunning.
several grapes in the foliage behind Adam and Eve represent Christ’s death on the cross, as wine represents his blood
