AND... BREATHE! 🫁

Last week, I started gradually building back into running — starting with a 3km jog/walk after 10 weeks off due to injury 👟

FAR from the worst thing in the world, but going from the high of my last triathlon to this forced rest from running in the middle of race season has been emotionally difficult.

Reflecting on this time: I’m incredibly grateful to have other activities and hobbies that have stopped me from completely going off the rails, but running has always been my happy place. My escape. My headspace. And, if I’m honest, my ADHD dopamine hit. But I’m glad that I have other coping strategies now, and other ways of spending my time that align with my values.

As a physio, I know how challenging injury can be mentally as well as physically. I know that rehabilitation isn’t just about tissues, strength, loading and movement. There’s a whole person attached to that injured body part!

The frustration.
The fear of losing fitness.
The impatience.
The identity stuff.
The things you miss doing.

And none of that should go unnoticed as part of rehabilitation.

So, for now… I’m trying to breathe, trust the process, remind myself how lucky I am and remember that taking a step back doesn’t mean I’m standing still ❤️

This injury has been the push I needed to get back into enjoying the simple joy of movement 🧘‍♀️

3 silver and 2 bronze medals to take home just on time for his big comp in a few weeks.
