The quality continues to rise at CMVA.

Our players are developing stronger movement, more balanced body positions and increasingly controlled platforms—turning first contact into a reliable, playable ball for the team.

Every week we’re seeing:

🟣 Greater consistency under pressure
🟠 Better movement to the ball
🟣 Improved platform control and direction
🟠 More confidence in game-based situations

The commitment to learning, repetition and feedback is making a real difference.

Block Three is coming soon, bringing another opportunity for juniors and adults of all abilities to develop their volleyball in a positive, supportive training environment.

Good defence starts with movement, balance and a platform that can control the ball.

This progression takes players from focused technical work into more realistic, game-based situations:

👟 Move early and get behind the ball
⬇️ Stay low with bent knees and a balanced base
💪 Present a strong, controlled platform
📐 Use the platform angle to guide the pass
🎯 Finish with a playable ball towards the setter

The goal is not simply to keep the ball off the floor—it is to turn defence into an attacking opportunity.

Progress comes through repetition, feedback and gradually increasing the challenge. Keep moving forward, keep making adjustments and trust the process.

Save this Reel for your next training session and share it with a teammate working on their defence.

Get low. Move early. Keep the ball alive. 🏐

This week at CMVA, both groups worked on the movement and balance behind a better pass. By getting the hips low and building a stable base, players gave themselves more control to lift the ball high and direct it towards the setter.

Our younger players focused on consistency, height and direction, with the work towards the setter coming together really well. In the adult session, we took that base into defensive digging against a spike, then had plenty of fun practising the roll out after the pass — including some enthusiastic diving! 💜🧡

Every touch gives us something to build on. Which part of the dig are you working on: getting into position, controlling the contact or recovering afterwards?

This week, we are looking back at the serving foundations developed during Block One—and how that learning now supports our passing and receiving work in Block Two.

Our players focused on:

🟣 Creating a repeatable and controlled toss
🟠 Developing rhythm, timing and weight transfer
⚪ Contacting the ball at full reach
🟣 Serving towards purposeful targets
🟠 Using the serve to challenge the receiving player

Every serve creates a pass. The server provides the pressure, the receiver searches for the solution, and both players develop through the same practice.

That is the CMVA approach: each technical block connects to the next, creating a structured and continuous development journey.

Monday night’s second CMVA session delivered another fantastic step forward in our passing and digging development.

The session focused on:

➡️ Lateral movement
➡️ Moving forwards and backwards
➡️ Getting the arms out and ready
➡️ Maintaining a low body position
➡️ Bent knees and a straight back
➡️ Keeping the weight forward over the toes

The progression from all three players was excellent. By the end of the session, they were consistently controlling the first contact into the setter, creating the opportunity to set the ball accurately to the hitter.

That is what development looks like: stronger movement, a more balanced platform and a clear purpose behind every pass.

Next week, we continue building through serve receive and further digging development, with an increased focus on producing a controlled and balanced pass.

Want to experience focused coaching, more repetitions and individual feedback? A two-week trial can be activated at any time.

A quality pass begins before the ball reaches your arms.

Great serve receive is built on five simple actions:

👀 Read the server and track the ball
👟 Move early into a balanced position
💪 Create a firm, flat platform
📐 Control the platform angle
🎯 Direct the ball towards the target

Keep your feet slightly wider than shoulder-width, bend your knees, stay balanced and make contact in front of your body. Your arms should remain together, elbows straight and thumbs parallel.

Small technical mistakes can make passing much harder. Standing upright, keeping your weight on your heels, forming the platform late, swinging the arms or moving the wrists can all reduce control and consistency.

Swipe through the graphics and consider:

Which mistake is having the biggest impact on your passing?

Save this post for your next training session and share it with a teammate who wants to improve their first contact.

MORE BALLS. MORE TOUCHES. 🏐

Improvement comes from repetition—but every repetition should have a purpose.

At CMVA, we create sessions that give players more opportunities to contact the ball, explore their technique and make adjustments through individual feedback.

More meaningful touches build greater confidence, improved control and stronger decision-making.
