So, you want to start kickboxing but the idea of coming down for the first time is really daunting. There can be a lot of questions you might have before attending.

You might wonder about the unknown: what do we actually do in a class? Do I need prior experience? What will the people training there be like?

Let’s answer some of those questions!

Our classes follow a structure (that might change slightly from time to time, but generally follow this pattern).

We’ll always start with a stretch and a warmup, then we’ll move onto padwork (or sometimes we’ll do grading sets first) - the majority of the lesson will be working in pairs on a routine broken down into segments. Then sometimes we may do some conditioning work (not loads, we promise!), then we’ll stretch again and you’re all done! ✅

We start and end every lesson with a bow, to show respect to the room and everyone we’re training with 🙏

You don’t need any prior experience, we’ll guide you through everything you need to know. We’re here to train, but also to enjoy ourselves. For many these lessons can be more about just releasing some stress instead of coming down to do the worlds best round kick, we get it 🥊

We have an added bonus at Lenton - we’re still in our infancy as a club, having only opened this year, so we’re able to take more time as a group to talk through executing tricker techniques!

We’re beyond thrilled to announce that the incredible Megan Vardy will be leading a special Samurai Sword Seminar on Sunday, 6th September at East Leake Leisure Centre! 🗡️ Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to train with a 14-time World Champion, renowned for her mastery in Extreme Forms—both with and without weapons. This is your chance to learn from one of the very best in the field!

Every participant will receive a high-quality wooden training sword as part of the seminar price, so you can practice your new skills during the session and take your sword home afterwards. What more could you ask for?

Sessions are tailored by age for optimal learning:
- **Ages up to 12:** 1pm–2pm, just £25 each
- **Ages 13+:** 2:15pm–4pm, only £35 each

Whatever belt you're wearing, whatever your experience level, every session you get coaches who are genuinely invested in your progress — spotting the small technique tweaks that make a big difference, pushing you forward with feedback that actually helps, and making sure the mats feel like a place you want to be.

And we're not stopping there. This September, we're launching a brand-new coaching team course to level up the support even further. More expertise on the floor means more potential unlocked for every student who walks through our doors.

Lenton’s first grading… and our members absolutely smashed it 🤩

Everyone has been putting in so much hard work to prepare for this grading, and it 100% paid off. Everyone who applied to grade, passed! 🎉

Although a red belt is the first belt you can obtain, we say it’s one of the hardest belts to get. When going for your red belt you’ve never been to the grading before, which is much bigger than usual classes as all of our Nottinghamshire/Leicestershire (and a bit of Derbyshire!) come together to grade at the same time. It can also be an intense session, it requires stamina and high energy throughout. Plus for many the last time they did an exam may have been when they were at school, so can feel the pressure of being examined!

With all this said, everyone came to our grading on the 19th July and gave it their all like they do every session, and were superb. We hope everyone is incredibly proud of their achievements, we certainly are! ⭐️

We’re so excited to see some of you coming down to class next week wearing your new belt, ready to take that next step in your training journey 🥊
