Next work party will be Sunday 12th April 0900-1300.

Tasks will include:
- construction of disabled platforms
- replacement of fence posts at the north
- strimming/clearing around pegs
- litter picking

As with the last work party we'll aim to get a short safety briefing delivered at 9am then get some jobs underway.

Steel toes and work gloves would be advisable; we have hi vis vests to loan out if you don't have your own and a few pairs of work gloves as well.

Please bring any tools you think will be of use.

If you can make it please let me know so I have an idea of numbers.

MEMBERS WORK PARTY NOTICE

Saturday 14th March
0900-1300 (approx)

Priority tasks are to get the southern corner fishable for the Ash Lea kids and disabled anglers
- removal of peg 1
- removal of first disabled platform with a view to rebuilding at site of peg 1
- repairs to the second and third disabled platforms

Other tasks in no order of priority and dependent on numbers as to whether we can include them:
- removal of the old net dip bin from the north shore car park (quick win)
- clearance around pegs on south side of lake
- possible removal of the old wooden pegs at 19-21 ahead of planned installation of composite pegs

The club does not have a stock of tools. Please bring anything you can that might help.

Make sure you are suitably dressed and if you've got them, bring waders

Please let us know if you can make it, it'd be great to see as many members as possible down at the lake, and the more work we can get done the better. We've got plans....

One issue that came up at the AGM was that of enforcement. A number of members have expressed an interest in stepping up our bailiff activities and forming something of a rota to ensure we maintain a visible presence. As members will already know, we are all considered club bailiffs under the rules and can ask to see membership cards and tackle being used by anglers on Heron Lake, just as we're all expected to produce our cards on request.

For those that are interested in taking this a stage further the Angling Trust has some online learning which forms the foundation of getting involved with the Voluntary Bailiff Service. Once this is done (it's about 2 hours worth of e-learning, is pretty straightforward and free of charge), intermediate training is then done via an online workshop, the next of which is scheduled for May 5th. Also free of charge. Applications open in April this year. I've registered the club's interest in the VBS on behalf of the members that have already completed the Introductory training; obviously the more members we have involved the better it is for the club. We all know the history of poaching on our lake and if we're planning on stocking this winter we need to be as well placed to bailiff the lake as we can to protect our investments, which will need support from members, the AT, EA and local police. We are engaging with the other agencies as well to seek that support.

Just a heads up for any members still planning to renew, in line with views raised by members at the AGM the committee has voted to raise membership fees for the first time in years. Renewals at £40 will be honoured for existing members until the end of March. New memberships as of now and renewals after 31st March will be £50. Juniors are held at £10. More details are on the website news page.

The recent sample of the Lake water has shown medium-high levels of blue-green algae such that we have been advised to put up signage to warn the public …not to use the water for swimming for example, keep dogs away and to wash properly if they come into contact with it.



I have put some warning signs ( X8) at various locations around the area today to warn people ( not to swim etc and prevent their dogs from entering the water too)… so can you inform your members as they are most likely to be affected.



Presence of BGA does not mean the water is toxic but there is a risk of toxicity under certain conditions….better to be safe etc

As you are all aware my dad passed away peacefully on the 31st July. My didn't want any kind of wake but we feel we would like to raise a glass in his memory at The Rose and Crown on Friday 8th August at 1pm anyone that would like to join us to raise a glass to this amazing man please do!
