We’re asking leaders to carry more complexity, more pressure and more responsibility than ever - often while trying to support everyone else.

Perhaps it’s time we supported the people doing the supporting.

There’s what we say out loud… and then there’s what’s going on in our head.

Leadership isn’t about silencing that inner voice. It’s about recognising when fear is doing the talking... and choosing something different.

Pause. Reconnect. Remember Who You Are.

Who are you and who did you learn to be in order to succeed?

I've been thinking about this question because of a puzzle ring my father bought me when I was a teenager in Cyprus.

At the time it was simply something beautiful.

Decades later, I learned something about the stories associated with these rings that made me see it completely differently.

And it got me thinking about leadership.

Because we do something remarkably similar with our identities.

We accumulate beliefs about who a successful leader needs to be. Some serve us. Some once served us. And some quietly take us further away from ourselves.

I've written about the puzzle ring and what it taught me about leadership identity in this week's Remember Who You Are.

Remember Who You Are

03/08/2026

Leadership isn't exhausting because you're doing too much.

It's exhausting when you're carrying a version of yourself that was never yours to begin with.

Many leaders believe they must always have the answers.
Always appear confident.
Always stay strong.
Never let others see uncertainty.

But that's not leadership.
That's survival.

The most effective leaders don't lead from fear of getting it wrong. They lead from self-awareness, authenticity and trust.

When you stop leading to prove yourself and start leading from who you truly are, everything shifts.

✔️ Conversations become more meaningful.
✔️ Decisions become clearer.
✔️ Teams feel safer.
✔️ Leadership becomes sustainable.

The future of leadership isn't about becoming someone different.

It's about remembering who you are beneath the expectations, the titles and the conditioning.

Because conscious leadership doesn't begin with strategy.

It begins with self-awareness.

Stillness is not the absence of leadership.

It is where wise leadership begins.

In a world that rewards speed, certainty and constant action, stillness can feel uncomfortable. We may even mistake it for doing nothing.

Yet when we are always rushing towards the next meeting, decision or deadline, we leave little space to hear what is happening within us.

Stillness invites us to pause and notice:

What am I feeling right now?
What am I avoiding?
Am I responding to what is actually happening—or reacting from an old pattern?
Is the way I am leading aligned with the person I want to be?

Self-reflection is not about judging ourselves or endlessly analysing every decision. It is about creating enough inner space to see ourselves clearly—with honesty and compassion.

Eastern wisdom has long taught us that clarity emerges when the mind becomes quiet. Western psychology reminds us that awareness gives us greater choice over our behaviour.

Together, they offer leaders something powerful: the ability to respond intentionally rather than live on autopilot.

Sometimes the most courageous thing a leader can do is stop.

Breathe.

Listen.

And allow the next wise step to reveal itself.

Where could a little more stillness help you lead with greater clarity this week?
