🔥 Fire at Colwick Country Park
Unfortunately, we’ve had a fire on the boundary of Colwick Country Park, close to neighbouring properties.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown. However, it serves as a very clear reminder of why BBQs and open fires are not permitted anywhere within Colwick Country Park.
Our Rangers regularly have to ask visitors to extinguish BBQs and are often met with frustration, abuse or an abrupt “why?”
This is why.
In dry conditions, it only takes one spark or a small patch of burning charcoal for a fire to spread rapidly. On this occasion, the fire was close to neighbouring homes and has also partially damaged an area of grassland meadow that is deliberately left for wildlife.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to members of the local community who acted quickly and attempted to tackle the fire, before being joined by Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. 👏🚒
We’d also like to thank those who came forward with information and images relating to the incident. These have now been passed on to the police.
Thankfully, the incident was brought under control, but the consequences could have been much worse.
Please help us protect Colwick Country Park, all of Nottingham’s greenspaces, our wildlife and our neighbouring communities.
🚫 No BBQs
🚫 No open fires
Enjoy our parks and greenspaces safely. 🌿

MAJOR INCIDENT ‼️
As of 1:30 pm, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has declared a major incident. This relates to the cumulative impact of multiple incidents placing significant pressure on operational resources, rather than a single incident in isolation.
The Service is currently operating with very limited resources and reduced pump availability. As a result, response times to any further incidents are likely to be delayed.
Still call 999 in an emergency.
We would like to remind people not to light any fires, such as campfires or BBQs, and to take extra care when disposing of ci******es due to the incredibly dry conditions, as a spark could spread quickly.
Please visit our website www.notts-fire.gov.uk for further updates and safety advice.

We wanted to remind everyone that it is against the law to use devices such as setlines, snares and gaffs to catch fish.
If you have any information on people using these devices, please let us know through the incident hotline (0800 80 70 60) so we can investigate 📞

‼️Blue Green Algae – Old Trout Lake‼️
Our latest routine water quality sample has identified elevated levels of naturally occurring blue-green algae in Old Trout Lake.
As a precaution, warning signs will be installed in line with environmental guidance. Please do not enter the water, and keep dogs away from the lake, as blue-green algae can be harmful to both people and animals.
🏊 A reminder that swimming is only permitted during the organised open water swimming sessions on West Lake with Whole Health (Nottingham City Open Water Swimming Centre - Colwick Country Park). These sessions operate under controlled conditions with regular water quality monitoring. Swimming elsewhere within Colwick Country Park is not permitted.
Thank you for your cooperation while we continue to monitor the lakes.

It's that time of year again when we'll be carrying out our hydroacoustic fish surveys along the River Trent 🐟
To collect the best data possible, surveys are carried out at night by boat 🚤
While we always do our best to avoid disturbing anglers, please be aware that we will be working on the river on the following dates:
Monday 17th August - Colwick to the Leen
Tuesday 18th August - Stoke Lock to Gunthorpe
Wednesday 19th August - Gunthorpe to Hazelford

Tuesday 25th August - Nether Lock to Cromwell
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation while these surveys are being undertaken.

☀️ Today is going to be another hot day, and while most people will enjoy the weather responsibly, we're asking everyone to think twice before lighting fires outdoors.
During the first week of the summer holidays, deliberate outdoor fires more than doubled in Nottinghamshire compared to the same period last year. In hot, dry conditions, even a small fire can quickly spread and put people, wildlife and property at risk.
We ask that whatever you do, you do it safely, and that your children know the consequences of setting fires deliberately.
