This weeks 1st XI squad for our home game at the Hall

Our 1st XI recorded an away win to take them back up to 2nd in the league.

Unfortunately the 2nds had to concede, despite immense efforts to field a team

The club are very saddened to hear of the passing of former player and scorer, Arthur Staves.

Arthur had already enjoyed a distinguished cricketing career in the local area before joining Wiseton whilst the club was in exile playing at Gringley on the Hill. Together with his sons, Richard and David, Arthur played for several more years before taking on the role of official scorer when the club joined the Bassetlaw League in 1992.

For over twenty years, Arthur kept immaculate scorebooks and, although much of the game is now recorded on computers, there remains something special about the old-fashioned art of keeping score by hand. Arthur’s books were renowned for their detail, accuracy and neatness.

During his time with Wiseton, Arthur served the club with distinction as scorer, vice-chairman and committee member. Even after stepping down from scoring duties, he remained a loyal supporter of the club and a familiar face around the ground.

Arthur was also a great supporter of young players. Despite the club not having a formal junior section, he was always on hand to offer advice and encouragement, and many players over the years benefited from his knowledge and experience. From Rob Wyles, Matt Loates and James Edgeley to more recent recruits Hayden and Heath Kay, countless players have been grateful for Arthur’s wisdom and support.

From my own personal memories of Arthur, one thing that will always stay with me are the car journeys to matches with Arthur, Steve Marshall and Graham Bell. They were often highly entertaining. Arthur and Steve would regularly have lengthy debates about cricket, usually from very different viewpoints, whilst a mischievous Graham would often give me a wink before deliberately saying something that would get the pair of them debating… strongly!

Looking back now, those journeys and the banter that came with them are great memories. Cricket clubs are built on friendships and characters as much as they are runs and wickets, and Arthur was very much a part of that.

Arthur will always be remembered fondly by everyone associated with Wiseton Cricket Club and we would like to pass on our deepest condolences to his family, especially his wife Kathleen and sons Richard and David.

Arthur’s funeral will take place on Friday 19 June 2026 at Lea Fields Crematorium at 11.30am.

Getting ready for the weekend

A brilliant double win for the club topped a fantastic weekend of cricket

A superb 129 from Hayden Kay helped the 2nds to a fantastic run chase win.

This week our Chairman bumped into our First overseas pro from the 1990's, Steve Thompson, who has come over to the UK from Australia.

Adam struck up a friendship with Steve over 30 years ago via the old fashioned dial up (for the youngsters out there ask your parents) who was with Echuca South Cricket Club, and to this day we still have one of their club shirts hanging in our dressing room.

Cricket is a wonderful sport that has a unique ability to connect people, clubs, communities, countries and continents which is what makes the game so special.
As a result of AOL (again youngsters ask parents) Steve came to play for Wiseton CC in 1998 whilst teaching in Manchester and from then; a connection was made which would see Steve make the trip over again in 2008.

Steve plans on being in the UK for a few months and we are hoping to convince him to don the whites and take to the field for us once more.

Moments such as these remind us of the power of sport and the beauty of cricket, you never know who or what will happen when you're part of a village club.

After 2 disappointing weeks the club are hoping to bounce back with a win away at Clumber Park. Special mention goes to our longstanding ball sponsor Truck Hydraulics.

Our 1sts recorded their 4th successive win of the season whilst our 2nds bounced back from last week to record their first win of the season. A great weekend for the club!

Our firsts recorded a third successive win of the season to start the season W,W,W. Whilst the seconds started their 2026 season with a loss at home. Onto this weekend and aiming for 44pts across the club.
