Eastwood & Kimberley FC brought pre-season to a close this afternoon with a 1–2 defeat against Bargate Rovers, in the final outing before the league season gets underway.

E&K presented a squad of 14 to the game, including a number of youngsters looking to make their mark at senior level. With the squad lacking an out-and-out striker, it was always going to be a challenging afternoon in front of goal, and ultimately that proved decisive.

The Dale Club pitch is also continuing to suffer from the contrasting elements of the past few weeks, with the extreme heat followed by the constant rain making conditions difficult, especially as the game went on.

Having not played much over the past couple of weeks, E&K started exactly as you might expect — a little rusty and needing to find their rhythm. Bargate dominated possession and eventually made their pressure count with a well-worked goal to take the lead.

1–0 Bargate.

Half-time arrived and provided something of a wake-up call for the group.

E&K responded positively after the break and found themselves level in quite extraordinary circumstances.

Goalkeeper Harry Fisher launched a clearance from inside his own box which somehow sailed all the way up the pitch and into the Bargate net!

Unbelievably, Harry isn't the first E&K goalkeeper to find the back of the net, but he can now add his name to that rather exclusive list!

E&K then had the opportunity to complete the turnaround from the penalty spot, although some rather strange behaviour involving a vehicle behind the goal and its headlights appeared to work its magic — with the resulting spot-kick missed.

As the minutes ticked away, E&K were made to rue their missed opportunities as Bargate snatched a late winner.

There are certainly lessons for E&K to take from the afternoon. The group will learn from them, while those who haven't been able to attend training sessions may well realise that if we're going to be ready for a gruelling season, commitment and getting to those sessions is going to be vital.

Despite the result, there were plenty of positives to take, particularly from the youngsters who stepped up and got valuable senior minutes under their belts.

Now, there's no more pre-season to hide behind.

The league starts next. A new season, a new chapter and our first under manager Tom Spicer.

𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥 𝟭𝟴'𝗦 - 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗬𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗥𝗘𝗗

With two weeks until the season starts its not been ideal for our U18's who have had a hard time recruiting so far. Despite finishing runners up last season in Division Three and thus earning promotion, many players have opted to jump straight to senior football from U'16 football which is understandable. We do need a push from everyone connected with the club to help find around 4 more players and most definitely a goalkeeper! Please get in touch if you know of anyone who would be interested.

𝗟𝗔𝗗𝗜𝗘𝗦 𝗗𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗟𝗢𝗣𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗔𝗙𝗙𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗗

Our NEW Ladies development team is now able to play friendlies and take part in football activity throughout this coming season. It also aids our Here To Play fund application which will provide everything our Development team will need. Plans will be presented to the playing squad soon but there will be ample footballing opportunity whilst we build ready for season 27/28. Of course, our current ladies kick off their debut season in Division One after the huge successes of last season in Division Two, in two weeks, as they travel to Mansfield Town Development. 𝗚𝗢𝗔𝗟𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗧𝗦

We recently had a football foundation application accepted for new goalposts only for us to realise we had requested the wrong ones! We have since reapplied for the correct sets and hope this will be processed quite quickly. The current posts are well past their use by date and with the pitch eventually moving, now would be as good a time as any! We will update when necessary.

𝗙𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗜𝗡𝗚

Dave has been an absolute trooper and has already taken down the first portion of fencing, sanded it down and has painted them black ready to be reinstalled in the new position. With the prospective dugout funding still a waiting game, there is still lots to do but rest assured we are on it - especially Dave!

𝗙𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦

With so much going on and plans in forward motion, we of course require funding. We will over the course of this season have plenty of events which we need everyone to get behind and help with. First up will be a Race Night (We have held these in the past and have always been successful) and details of this will be shared in due course. We appreciate everything people currently do but we need to keep going and that includes on the funding side.

𝘾𝙇𝙐𝘽 𝙉𝙀𝙒𝙎/𝙐𝙋𝘿𝘼𝙏𝙀𝙎

𝘔𝘐𝘚𝘊𝘖𝘕𝘋𝘜𝘊𝘛 𝘊𝘏𝘈𝘙𝘎𝘌

Following the abandonment of our First Team friendly against Priory Celtic earlier this month, the club initially started its own review before the FA took control of investigating the circumstances. They have now concluded their investigation with sanctions being issued, of which the player involved has received a ban and fine, whilst the club received a fine. Fines have been settled.

As a club, we accepted the outcome and the processes followed by the FA and again reiterate that we do not condone any of the actions that occurred. We have learnt some valuable lessons and hope that this sort of incident can be used as a warning to all regarding conduct both on and off the field.

We have now drawn a line under the incident and our focus turns firmly back to the season ahead.

𝘋𝘜𝘎𝘖𝘜𝘛𝘚

We are slowly getting there... We are just waiting for a funding application (one of a few) to hit our bank. We hope it will be in the next week or so but these things take time.

Dave has been tirelessly working taking down the first section of fencing of which will be sanded down and repainted before putting back up in the new position.

We will update accordingly.

𝘜𝘕𝘋𝘌𝘙 18'𝘚 (Male)

With 13 players signed on, Manager Kev Connor is still in need of a Goalkeeper and at least 3 more players.

Our prospective Development team is making huge strides and will be affiliated shortly. Thanks to increased numbers which continue to grow, we are hoping to have a 2nd side ready for competitive football either if a team drops out this season or ready for next season - in the meantime, should availability allow, our ladies will continue to train or play friendlies throughout the season.

Our Ladies section has progressed immensely since we started 3 years ago and our reputation continues to grow with it. Our current sides success and atmosphere has aided this and we hope to continue the great work going forward.
