3 weeks of graft - painting the stables in 32°C heat! ☀️🥵🎨 It’s been hard work, but what a transformation! They look absolutely fantastic, and we couldn’t be happier with how they’ve turned out. 🐴❤️

Every bit of sweat, paint and hard work was worth it! 💪✨

No grass!
And
No hay!

The uk weather is creating a real problem for some horse owners at the moment.

We’ve had very little rain, the grass has been eaten.

I’m seeing more and more horses turned out all day in paddocks that are now little more than soil and brown, burnt grass.

Many owners worry about their horses weight, particularly those with metabolic issues or horses that are naturally chunky. So having no grass they may think it’s a blessing!

But if there is nothing left to eat, we should also be thinking about potential digestive issues aswell.

A horses digestive system is designed around regular intake of forage. Long periods with very little or no forage can increase the risk of digestive problems and gastric ulcers.

Just because a horse looks healthy does NOT mean their digestive system is healthy.

Body condition does not tell us what is happening inside the digestive tract.

Horses are also becoming increasingly agitated and fighting with their field mates, standing around the gates wanting to come in for food. They are also running up & down the fence line on very hard ground.

If your horse lives in a herd, putting hay out may not really be an option ( especially on a traditional yard) consider whether someone can bring your horse in during the day, give them a forage based feed, and turn them back out again.

If your horse is in a paddock on their own consider putting a hay net out for them. If you’re worries about weight gain, soak your hay.

Even a forage based feed in the afternoon is better than a horse spending the entire day with nothing meaningful to eat.

Managing their weight without compromising their digestive health or unnecessarily increasing stress is important.

So please take a look at your horses paddock.

Is there actually enough forage there to keep your horse eating throughout the day?

Don’t forget a decent gut balancer aswell.

What a brilliant month it’s been at the yard! We’ve celebrated birthdays, cheered on our gorgeous prom-goers (who scrub up just as well as their ponies! ✨), celebrated new career ventures and squeezed in plenty of fun yard outings along the way🥂

Whether we’ve been out and about, celebrating together, or simply enjoying the everyday laughs that come with yard life, it’s been a month full of great memories and even better company!

The recent heatwave has certainly kept us all on our toes! There’s been plenty of early starts, extra water buckets, cooling showers, and seeking out every bit of shade we can find!

Despite the soaring temperatures, our horses have been enjoying lots of pampering and care, and we’ve managed to capture a few lovely moments along the way. From sleepy stable faces to sunny paddock scenes and everything in between, here’s a little snapshot of life at the yard lately☀️

‘Team Cherrytree’ raised a grand total of £551.00 for Cancer Research Uk today!!

For a group of 5 absolute non runners, 3 managed to complete the 5k jogging and the older one & the plump one finished in a magnificent walk😂😂

Huge thanks to everyone that so kindly sponsored us and congratulations to Alex, Kayleigh and Lauren for completing it with us for a fantastic cause - tough mudder next time!!

Nothing beats a sunrise, sunset or rainbow over the place we love the most🌈

Winter has finally eased off at the yard — and not a moment too soon!🌿

The mud has disappeared, rugs are off, and both horses and humans seem to be enjoying the lighter, milder days☀️

Everything’s starting to feel a bit more alive again — longer evenings, a touch of sunshine, and a welcome break from the worst of the cold and wet!
