Muay Thai / Thai Boxing is known for its powerful leg kick techniques. The low kick is a devastating weapon when executed with correct technique. A common mistake is to kick with the lower part of the shin or, worse still, the foot. Ideally the top of the shin (the thickest part of the bone) should engage the target (in this video, the heavy bag). The sound of the kick impacting the bag reveals if the kick has been executed properly. Repeated kicking of the heavy bag and Thai pads conditions the shins to withstand the impact of striking and to be able to block an opponent's kick.
As part of the warm-up Lukchay Muay Thai students practice shadow boxing. This develops (and tests good balance) and develops good technique before hitting the heavy bag or Thai pads. At the request of this morning's student I recorded a sequence for him to drill at home of the combinations we worked in his private lesson.
A technique I've been teaching my students this week, with particular focus on:
1) Correct foot positioning and balance.
2) Protecting the head / body at all times.
3) Hip twist ahead of hand extension to generate maximum power.
4) Extension, to increase reach and power.
Everything starts from the right stance and it's important to stay relaxed until the moment you connect with the target.
Lukchay Muay Thai offers one-to-one training in Muay Thai / Thai Boxing. Comprising stamina, strength and flexibility training, Thai Boxing is a fun way to workout and an extremely effective form of self-defence comprising punching, kicking, kneeing, elbowing and clinching techniques. In this video, a warm welcome to the gym and a quick tour of the equipment. For more information or to book a trial session, please message me through WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger.
