We’re delighted to share that entries for our 2026/27 National Competitions have increased by over 9%, reflecting the continued growth strength of our sport.
This season has seen record numbers in our Novice Singles, Family Pairs, Open Pairs, and Men’s 2 Bowl Singles. We’re also proud to report significant growth in our Under 25s competition, with entries rising by 10% in the Men’s and 18% in the Women’s, which bodes well for the future of indoor bowls.
These increases follow on from record participation in our 2026 Summer Nationals, showing that indoor bowls is thriving all year round and continues to prove itself as a sport for all.
Whether you’re discovering the game for the first time or returning for another competitive season, there’s never been a better moment to get on the green. Thank you to every player, volunteer, coach and club helping us grow the sport we love.
Let’s make 2026/2027 our biggest and best season yet 🔥

About Gedling Phoenix Indoor Bowls Club - Our Story
Gedling Phoenix Indoor Bowls Club (formerly Gedling & District Indoor Bowls Club) has been at the heart of the local bowling community since 1987.
Following the closure of our long-standing home at the Richard Herrod Centre in 2026, our members chose not to let nearly four decades of history come to an end. Instead, we embraced a new chapter, rebranding as Gedling Phoenix Indoor Bowls Club—a name that reflects our determination, resilience and commitment to ensuring that indoor bowls continues to thrive for the people of Gedling and the surrounding communities.
Today, we continue to offer members a vibrant and welcoming club, operating from two excellent venues:
South Forest Leisure Complex, Edwinstowe (Our Headquarters)
Nottingham Indoor Bowls Club, Beechdale Road, Nottingham
This dual-venue arrangement enables us to continue providing league bowling, competitions, friendly matches, social bowling, free taster sessions and open days, and support the community, while we work towards securing a permanent future for indoor bowls within the Gedling area.
A Club for Everyone
We believe bowls is a sport that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy.
Whether you are eight or eighty-eight, a complete beginner or an experienced international player, you will receive a warm welcome at Gedling Phoenix. Our members come from all walks of life and enjoy the game at whatever level suits them best.
Some members simply enjoy a relaxed social roll-up with friends, while others take part in club leagues, county competitions and national events. Whatever your ambitions, there is a place for you within our club.
Our Community
Community has always been at the heart of everything we do.
For almost forty years we have provided opportunities for people to remain active, make new friendships, improve their physical and mental well-being and become part of a supportive sporting community.
We are particularly proud of our long-standing commitment to inclusive and disability bowls. Our club has a proud history of supporting disabled bowlers and creating opportunities for everyone to participate, regardless of age, ability or experience. We continue to work with organisations and community groups to promote accessible participation and ensure that indoor bowls remains a sport for all.
Looking Forward
Although our home has changed, our values have not.
Gedling Phoenix Indoor Bowls Club remains committed to:
Providing high-quality indoor bowls for all abilities.
Promoting health, wellbeing and social inclusion through sport.
Supporting disability and inclusive bowling.
Introducing new people to the sport through free taster sessions and open days.
Building a strong, friendly and welcoming community.
Working towards the long-term return of a permanent indoor bowls facility serving the people of Gedling.
