Appledore 1-4 Elmore

An uphill task for Appledore after just seven minutes when Jamie was shown a straight red card, leaving us with a huge challenge for the remaining 83 minutes.

We had to reshuffle and dig in, trying to stay in the game for as long as possible. Matters were made more difficult when Elmore were awarded a penalty for a handball which, from our perspective, looked to have taken place just outside the area. Elmore made no mistake from the spot to make it 1-0.

It soon became 2-0 when an Elmore effort took a deflection and found the bottom corner.

Appledore thought they had found a way back into the game when a loose ball fell to Joe Blanch, who raced through on goal with the Elmore keeper coming out to meet him. Joe managed to get the ball into the net, although Elmore felt the keeper had got two hands to it. The referee allowed the goal to stand and it was 2-1.

Just before half-time, Elmore were awarded another penalty for a handball from close range. The decision was made despite the player’s arm appearing to be down by his side, but Elmore again converted to make it 3-1 at the break.

For Appledore, the second half was about keeping the score down, working hard for one another and looking for any opportunity to get back into the game.

Credit to Elmore, they kept the ball well and made it difficult for us at times. Despite the lads’ efforts and hard work, Elmore found a fourth goal with just a couple of minutes remaining to make it 4-1.

A difficult afternoon for the lads, made even harder by playing with 10 men for the majority of the game. There will naturally be some frustration with a few of the decisions, but credit to the players for continuing to work hard and battle right until the final whistle.

Fremington 1-3 Appledore

A solid performance from the lads today as we come away with a 3-1 victory away to Fremington in the Devon Cup.

Goals from Jamie Bowden x2 and Jack see us safely into the hat for the next round.

A strong all round performance from the lads and a well-deserved win.
