Very proud of this one. π
1:19:23 at the Vale of York Half β a 2:15 PB.
More than the time itself, Iβm really pleased with how I executed it. Settled in, stayed patient and pretty much clicked off 6:00β6:05 miles from start to finish. I had more of a progressive plan going in, but sometimes you have to race the race in front of you and there was a group that I didnβt want to get detached from.
The last 3 miles were a different story though. I had to properly dig in to keep the pace there, and crossed the line knowing there really wasnβt anything left to give.
Thatβs probably the most satisfying part β getting the ex*****on right early enough that I could empty the tank when it actually mattered.
Itβs also come off the back of probably the most consistent block of running Iβve managed in years, and with no taper off peak mileage so far. Nothing spectacular β just week after week of getting the work done, staying healthy and gradually stacking fitness.
And one of the best bits of the whole day was seeing my girls at the side of the road cheering me on. Thereβs something pretty special about being absolutely on the limit, then spotting them and getting that little extra lift. β€οΈ
Itβs all relative, though. Plenty of people reading this time is impressive and fast, while some of the runners Iβm looking up to are literally 10 minutes further up the road.
Maybe Iβll get closer to that one day, maybe I wonβt. For now, Iβm enjoying finding out, taking it as it comes and appreciating these little personal progressions along the way.
Iβve spent most of my sporting life as a cyclist who runs a bit, but Iβm absolutely loving finding out what I can do with running when I give it some proper consistency.
Onwards. πββοΈπ
