Some sad news received today about the sudden death of Andrew Hedley (AH Coaching) last Friday. Knew Andrew since he was a junior with Ards CC in 2005. He started in 2017 his own coaching firm, and racing team. He was a good tester, and always had time for a chat during races. Originally from the Comber Area, and was living in Belfast. Andrew was only 37 years old, and my heart goes to his girlfriend, family and the many friends in cycling he had, RIP dear friend 😢
The funeral will be held in Newtownards at S.Clarke & Sons (Court Street) on Saturday 29th August at 9.30am

Sunday 23rd August: The 2026 EMYVALE GRAND PRIX in Monaghan was a great success at all counts, sunny weather, no wind and decent number of entries. My apologies for the late report...trouble with my laptop, and eventually got the photos edited and downloaded. 3 races on the menu...the C1-C2 race was an handicapper, but overcome after 50km racing... after that 10 riders got away and stayed away, with a sprint won by Ciaran Maguire Team Dan Morrissey beating Dean Harvey Mc Convey Cycling in 2nd, and Lindsay Watson Caldwell Powerhouse Racing a close 3rd. The C3 race stayed mostly together for their 75 km race...and won by Ihnatii Melnyk (Bray Wheelers) beating Seamus Babington (Panduit Carrick Wheelers) to second, 3rd was Jamie Franklin ( VC Glendale) The supporting Ulster Masters Race was won by Tony Pryce (DB Cycling Club), second was Patrick Ennis U/A Leinster, with Brendan Kiernan (Lakeside Wheelers Mullingar) 3rd. A well done to Elena Wallace Harps Cycling Club for winning the "2026 Women's National Series" It was close but her 3rd place in the Bobby Crilly Classic last Sunday at Nutts Corner sealed the win..I follow Elena since she was a young Junior, and every year I felt she was improving, taking on hard races, travelling the country with her dad Keith, and mostly ending up at the podium...2 years ago she was also a Belgian Project bursary holder, and her consistency and hard work has now paid off!! 👏

(PART 1) The "Bobby Crilly Classic" promoted by Phoenix CC near the International Airport in Antrim. A day of traffic nightmare near the Airport, some M2 exits closed, part of the West link closed, extra traffic for the Nutts Corner market, and the round about at Nutts Corner which was part of the race circuit laps, so the races stopped in the first lap, and plan B became used, shorter laps before going to the mountain finish near Belfast. Quick thinking from the comm's and promotors made sure the race could continue in a safer way. This was the final leg in the Irish National Road series, so it attracted many riders from the South, and it was Matthew Walls (APS PRO CYCLING BY TEAM CADENCE CYCLERY) who took the win in the C1 race (his 4th win in 9 days!!) Junior Tony Kenneally (Dungarvan CC) took the C2 race, and had to face with his father Anthony a 6 hour return drive home...talking about dedication...You maybe notice a man from Kerry doing interviews with riders reaching podiums in our top races...Dominic from the Irish Cycling Hub
www.buymeacoffee.com & www.irishcyclinghub.ie left his house in Di**le 4am, to arrive at the race at the start 11am...and after interviews back home with another 6 hours to drive!! Jack Conroy (VELO PERFORMANCE U23 DEVELOPMENT TEAM) wins the UCI 1.12 "Moorslede Criterium" near Menen West Flanders yesterday (14th August) beating some seasoned experienced riders, which included some international riders from USA, Australia and GB. His team mates MARSHALL Christopher and LATTIMORE Eohan DNF due to taken out in the finishing laps... So happy for this young gentleman from Bray...certainly more to come from Jack!!
