Well done to Bonnie representing Ulster 18s in the UK School games this weekend and scoring 2 goals against Scotland.

The girls also came away with a huge result with a 1-0 win v England tonight.

And deserved recognition also for young umpire Ellie who has been busy lately at the FIH Youth Forum in Belgium as well as umpiring in the 6 Nations in Cork and the interpros in Dublin this weekend. Well done Ellie! Fantastic work…. The game won’t happen without you

Last night we had to remove a hurtful comment from one of our posts where an individual felt they had the right to publicly criticise our volunteer umpire in a junior league pre season friendly……

A reminder as we head into another season…

Our club umpires are volunteers. They give up their own free time to make sure matches can go ahead and that we can all enjoy the sport we love.

They will make decisions you agree with.
They will make decisions you disagree with.
They may even make mistakes — just like players and coaches do.

What they should never have to accept are negative, hurtful or personal comments from players, coaches or spectators.

Criticising and undermining volunteer umpires from the sideline or after a game is not a positive contribution to our sport. Without people willing to pick up a whistle, there simply wouldn’t be a game.

And if you genuinely feel you could do it better… we’d be delighted to hand you a whistle and show you where to start! 😉

Our sport needs more people willing to step forward and help — not fewer because they’ve been driven away by criticism.

Be part of the reason people want to volunteer. Not the reason they stop. 🏑
