Mayobridge FC 2-1 Villa Rovers

A great win today as we took the 3 points in a hard fought game against Villa Rovers.

The first half wasn’t a classic by any means and chances were few and far between for both sides, and it was goalless at half time.

The second half is where all the action started and we took the lead when Conor Garvey took it round the keeper and slotted home. It wasn’t long after that we made it 2-0 with Barnsey scoring a great free kick. Villa did manage to pull one back late on but we held on for the win.

Our first win the Premier Division in what was also our first outing in our new jerseys. A massive thank you to Coke Laverty’s Bar and Lounge for sponsoring the team once again.

After a weekend off last week, we return to league action tomorrow as we take on Villa Rovers in Jennings Park.

We will be looking to pick up where we left off a couple of weeks ago after a good result in the first game which seen us pick up a well earned point.

RESULT

Mayobridge FC 1-1 Newry Celtic

A good result today in our first game in the Premier Division as we got a point against a strong Newry Celtic team.

The first half had chances for both teams but it was us who talk the lead about half way through the half when Ger Laverty tapped home after Mackers hit the post. And that’s the way it stayed until half time.

In the second half again there were chances for both teams again, with Newry Celtic probably edging it but we defended well to hold them out, with Mick Gallagher making some great saves. Unfortunately, Newry did equalise late on and it finished 1-1.

The league season starts tomorrow as we play Newry Celtic in Clonallon Park.

This will be our first game in the Premier Division, and we look forward to a competitive and challenging season ahead.

RESULT

Mayobridge FC 1-3 Cleary Celtic

It wasn’t to be today as we fell to a 3-1 defeat in the 1st round of the Gerald Kennedy Cup to Cleary Celtic.

The first half was quite an even game with both teams playing good football and creating some decent chances. Unfortunately for us we couldn’t take any of ours and Cleary went 2-0 up going into the break.

The second half continued in the same style with chances for both teams, but it was Cleary who added a third around the hour mark. We tried our best to get back into the game, and managed to pull one back late on thanks to Brendy Murtagh finally getting his head on a ball and finding the back of the net.

Another good run out and we look forward to the league season starting on 15th August.

🔵⚪️ Gerald Kennedy Cup Round 1🔵⚪️

Competitive action returns tomorrow as we take on Cleary Celtic in the 1st round of the Gerald Kennedy Cup.

This is already our second meeting with Cleary after a narrow defeat in the Jimmy Davis cup last week, and we will look to put in another good performance in our first appearance in this cup.

RESULT

Mayobridge FC 1-2 Cleary Celtic

A great game tonight in the Jimmy Davis Memorial Cup where we narrowly lost out to Cleary Celtic.

It was a bad start for us conceding two sloppy goals from corners early on, and it looked like Cleary could run away with it. However, we held out and only trailed by 2 at half time.

We started the second half playing much better football and deservedly pulled a goal back when Rony Gallaghers long ball was put into the net by Jamie McKay. Unfortunately we couldn’t find the equaliser, despite some good football and played and good chances created.

Congratulations to Cleary on the win and best of luck in the season ahead. We will look to build on this good performance and compete well in the Premier Division this season.

🔵⚪️ Jimmy Davis Memorial Cup 🔵⚪️

Tomorrow evening we play in the curtain raiser for the season as face Cleary Celtic in the Jimmy Davis Memorial Cup.

The game will see the two league winners from last season compete, and will be a good start to what promises to be a challenging but exciting season ahead.
