What a super busy weekend we’ve had at SLDA! 💖✨

Not only did we have our wonderful Pink Carpet event on Saturday, but on Sunday we were straight back to it with a photoshoot for our beautiful new uniform! 🩰📸

A huge thank you to Chris Williams, who very generously volunteered his entire Sunday to photograph some of our lovely students modelling the uniform. We captured all of our ballet uniforms across the different grades, as well as our new Rambert Grades contemporary uniform, our SLDA Company uniform, and our existing modern and tap uniforms.

The dancers did such a fabulous job modelling everything, and we can’t wait to share more of the photos with you! 💕

A big thank you also to Helen Harper, who has created a beautiful uniform display at our Newport studio, where families can now view the different uniform options.

We’re so excited to see all these beautiful new colours appearing in classes this term. 🌈🩰

🎭✨ THE SECRET IS OUT… OUR 2027 PRODUCTION IS… ✨🎭

🪵🦗🦊 PINOCCHIO! 🦊🦗🪵

After weeks of clues, guesses and speculation, we were SO excited to finally reveal at our Pink Carpet Awards yesterday that SL Dance Academy’s 2027 all-school production will be PINOCCHIO! 💙✨

Next April, we’ll be taking you on a magical journey from Geppetto’s workshop, through an Italian village and enchanted forests, into a world of puppets, fairies, mischievous children, incredible creatures and adventure — all told through dance. 🩰🎭

As always, this will be a true whole-school production, with opportunities for our dancers of all ages to take part, from our littlest dancers right through to our most senior students. 💗

Expect beautiful ballet, energetic modern and tap, wonderful characters, fabulous costumes, spectacular group dances and, of course, plenty of SLDA magic! ✨

Did anyone actually guess it?! 👀😂

The adventure begins very soon, with principal-role auditions on Sunday 27th September — and we cannot WAIT to start bringing this wonderful story to life.

✨🏆 OUR PINK CARPET AWARDS HAVE ARRIVED! 🏆✨

There was a very exciting delivery at SLDA yesterday… our Pink Carpet Special Awards have arrived! 💕✨

Every year at our Pink Carpet Event, alongside celebrating the achievements of all our wonderful dancers, we present a number of very special awards recognising qualities that can’t always be measured by an exam result or a medal.

🌟 Most Improved – recognising a dancer who has made fantastic progress through their hard work and determination.

🌟 Most Promising – awarded to a dancer who has shown wonderful potential, commitment and promise.

🌟 The SLDA Community Award – celebrating someone who embodies the spirit of our SLDA community through their kindness, support and contribution to the school.

And this year, we are incredibly proud to introduce a very special new award…

💗 The Andrew Jervis Award 💗

This award will celebrate something we value enormously at SLDA – being present, showing up, getting involved and always trying your very best.

The award has been kindly funded by Andrew Jervis, grandfather of our pupil Ruby Wilks. Andrew sadly passed away recently.

Ruby’s family chose these qualities because they reflect the values Andrew appreciated in others.

Andrew loved rugby, and Blackwood Rugby Club was always his team. He supported them through every triumph and setback with unwavering loyalty, commitment and pride. He admired people who turned up, got involved and gave their all, regardless of the result.

He encouraged his children and grandchildren to have a go, work hard and always do their best, believing that you never know where an opportunity might lead if you are willing to try.

This award recognises a person who reflects those values: someone who is loyal to the school, committed to its success, proud to be part of it and always willing to encourage others to take part and do their best.

We feel incredibly honoured to introduce this award in Andrew’s memory and look forward to presenting it at this year’s Pink Carpet Awards. 💗✨
