A very special event took place at Newport Golf Club on Saturday June 15, The inaugural AM AM. 31 teams participated, our Ladies Team comprised Angela Hillier, Kaye Fletcher, and Mallory Armstrong, the 4th member of the team was Theo Baker whose home club is The Celtic Manor. I'm delighted to inform you they did exceptionally well and came 3rd out of the 31 teams - see picture at right. Huge congratulations to them, well done.

The second ladies team played St Mellons and lost 3 2. The team included Mallory Armstrong, Judith Wenman, Ceri Waite, Nerys Thomas and Linda Ware.
The 3rd team played at home against Rolls of Monmouth, and they halved the match. The team included, Linda Ware, Stephanie Wetter, Alison Kershaw, Kaye Fletcher and Christine Shewring.
A second team match was played at home against Radyr and the team won 4 1. The team included Judith Wenman! Ceri Waite, Charlotte Dawkins, Linda Ware and Kaye Fletcher.

Newport lost in the sudden death playoff to The Vale of Glamorgan at the Vale in the Mail on Sunday on 29 April 2013
Charlotte Dawkins came 1st with 39 points in the Newport Cup played on 2 May 2013 and Mallory Armstrong came 4th with 36 points
Newport won the Welsh Team Championship qualifying round over Glamorganshire played at Peterstone Lakes on 12 May 2013

Vets Society - Mark Hills Trophy and the President’s Spring Spoon, 2013
James Chaytor Jackson won the trophy this year. The picture below shows James receiving the Mark Hill's Trophy from our Captain, Denis Samuel.
This year’s auction was exceptional and thanks to the many donations and excellent performance by Graham Williams who auctioned 71 items, we raised an amazing £600 for the Prostate Cancer Charity.
James is currently in great form because just a couple of weeks later he also won the Presidents Spring Spoon.

2013 Vets Captain’s Drive-In.
Another successful Drive-in function was enjoyed by Captain Denis and 40 Veterans and guests on 17th April. The weather was a little cool but it didn’t prevent the enjoyment of the day as can be seen from the crowd gathering to see Denis drive-in.
Denis and his partners for the day, Vice-Captain Mike Sage and former Vet’s Captain, Colin Hill can be seen on the first tee before a very successful round in which they scored a winning 86 points.
Denis then set up for his drive – the set up was perfect but the follow through was ….. a step into the future! He managed a drive of 162.45 metres and the distance was guessed by his friend of many years, Graham Spacey, who clearly knows his game well.
