To round off the season, Durl hosted our annual Old Boys Weekend. For those who don’t know, Old Boys is a yearly event where ex-players return to Durham for a weekend of rugby league, catching up, and socialising with the new generation of players.

The game itself took place on a boiling hot Saturday morning after the lads may or may not have enjoyed a few social drinks the night before. Despite the conditions, there was plenty of quality on show from both sides, making for a great game of rugby in the sun. For the second time running, the Old Boys lifted the trophy, making the score of recent years 2-0.

There were some standout performances across the pitch, with a special shoutout to Caleb Goodwin, who rolled back the years putting in a Man of the Match display and finally managed to score his first try for the club (without even attempting his famous goose step we all know and love 🤥).

Another highlight came from ex-captain Gabe Parker, who decided to recreate his favourite try, the famous Sam Tomkins’ winner against St Helens. He executed the try brilliantly, but then immediately fell flat on his face while attempting the celebration - my personal highlight of the weekend.

A final shoutout goes to Matt Moran, who, despite his fear of ice, can always be relied upon to take a good ball in. However, Matt’s biggest contact of the weekend actually came the night before, when Fresher of the Year Tom Brodrick was launched about 20 metres backwards as Matt recreated his “favourite Durl moment.”

A huge thank you to all the lads who made the trip back for the weekend. It’s always great to see some familiar faces back at the club. Overall, the weekend was a massive success, and we can’t wait to do it all again next year. We’ll be in touch with all Old Boys /alumni closer to the time with the details for next year’s event! 💜🏉🍺

DURL returned to action after quite a lengthy break in a 9’s tournament hosted at York St John. We won 4 from 4 against Sheffield, York St John, Manchester and Bradford. Thanks to all the lads who made the journey down to York and for putting in some great performances. Everyone gave it everything on the pitch, but the standout player of the tournament had to be Matt Pearson for his dangerous running and numerous tries. Cheers to all the other teams for some great games of Rugby.

DURL are back in action today in our first away day of the season, and what a venue it is. We’ll be taking on Northumbria 1’s at Kingston park

Today the time has finally come where we make our Northern Prem debut - as we welcome Leeds Beckett 1’s to Maiden Castle.
A huge day for the DURL with many years in the making.
