⚫⚪ Match Report: U12 Milan Girls vs Whickham Fellside FC ⚪️⚫️

1st Round of the Boys League Cup 🏆

What a game.👏🏼

The Milan girls headed to Watergate Park knowing they were up against a team from the division above, but the message was simple, trust the plan, trust each other and leave everything on the pitch.

The girls started brilliantly. We created chances, moved the ball well and really put Whickham under pressure. Their goalkeeper was outstanding and made a number of great saves to keep us out. Then, at the other end, Whickham won a corner and the ball somehow found its way into the net.

1–0 down at half-time. But there was no panic. The girls knew the game was still there for the taking. We changed a few roles, tweaked a couple of things and sent them back out with one message… Keep going. And that’s exactly what they did.

Milan kept knocking on the door, and the Whickham keeper kept answering. The game became more physical, but instead of backing away from it, the girls stepped up another level. They competed, moved the ball well, drew Whickham onto them and kept pushing for the equaliser.

Then came the moment.

Final seconds of extra time.

Bella steps up over a free-kick and whips a brilliant ball into the box. Everyone’s thrown forward.

Maddie rises… HEADER… GOAL. 1–1 🎯

Straight to penalties.

Now, anyone who knows us knows penalties haven’t exactly been our best friend in the past, but this time there was no hiding. The girls wanted them. They were confident. They stepped up.

And this time… Milan held their nerve.

The lasses booked their place in the next round of the League Cup. 👏🏼🏆

One thing I’ve said about this group time and time again, they do not know when they’re beaten until that final whistle goes.

Every single player left everything on that pitch today. The effort, the belief, the attitude and the togetherness were outstanding.

A division above? No problem.
1–0 down? Keep going.
Last seconds? Never stop believing.

Into the hat for the next round. 🫶🏼⚫⚪

⚫⚪ Match Report: U12 Milan Girls vs Red House Farm FC ⚪️⚫️

1st Round of the Girls League Cup 🏆

The Milan girls hosted an unbeaten Red House Farm side in the first round of the League Cup, and we knew they would come ready to compete and leave everything on the pitch.

We couldn’t have asked for a better start. Maddie opened the scoring inside 60 seconds, and Milan began the game fast, aggressive and direct. We controlled the tempo, pressed well and forced Red House Farm into playing long.

Wiktoria then took over in front of goal, completing a first-half hat-trick and putting us in a strong position.

But from there, we took our foot off the gas.

Our concentration levels dropped, we allowed Red House Farm back into the game and gave them the momentum to start causing us problems. It was a reminder that games don’t finish when you get yourself into a comfortable position.

The message at half-time was strong because everything we’d worked on in training, keeping possession, moving the ball, making good decisions and trusting each other, had started to disappear.

Credit to Red House Farm, because they came out in the second half and really took the game to us. We struggled to find our normal rhythm, possession wasn’t as clean and our decision-making wasn’t at the level we’ve shown in recent weeks.

The girls were reminded to go back to basics, relax and trust the player next to them, but it was one of those performances where we never really got ourselves back into top gear.

The game finished 4–1, and most importantly we’re through to the next round. 🏆

But this was far from one of our best performances lol and sometimes those are the games you learn the most from.

We didn’t play our best, but we found a way to win. Now it’s about taking the lessons from today, getting back onto the training pitch and raising the standards again. 💪🏼

⚫⚪ Match Report: U12 Milan Girls vs Newcastle Benfield Azzurri ⚪⚫

1st Round of the Sunday County Cup 🏆

The Milan girls welcomed Newcastle Benfield Azzurri to Gibside Gardens for the opening round of the County Cup, and it was another new test for the group and one they stepped up to brilliantly. 🫶🏼

It was certainly a day for the attackers. The quality of chances we created as a team gave our forwards plenty to work with, with Maddie scoring six and Wiktoria adding five. 👏🏼⚽️

The main focus today was on keeping possession, moving the ball patiently and waiting for the right opening. We wanted to draw Benfield onto us, create the space, and then attack quickly and aggressively when the opportunity came to break the lines.

The girls are really starting to understand what we’re asking of them. They worked hard both on and off the ball, retained possession really well and constantly gave each other options.

There was some excellent football on display, moving the ball from side to side, using the width of the pitch and showing real patience rather than forcing the play. 👏🏼

Another very solid performance and another example of the girls taking what we work on in training straight into matchday.

⚫⚪ Match Report: U12 Milan Girls vs NCJ Inter Girls ⚪️⚫️

The Milan girls welcomed NCJ Inter Girls for the latest Newcastle City Juniors derby, with both teams coming into the game unbeaten and once again showing the strength and standard across the club. 👏🏼

Milan started quickly, with a change in formation designed to apply pressure, reduce Inter’s space and make it difficult for them to settle into their usual game. The girls adapted really well and showed exactly what we’ve been working on in training, be patient, control the space, and then be aggressive and direct when the opportunity appears.

Some excellent link-up play saw Wiktoria open the scoring with a neat finish, before another quick break ended with Olivia making it 2–0.

Out wide, Nell and Scarlett caused constant problems, stretching the pitch and driving at the Inter defence. Nell then whipped a dangerous ball into the box which took a deflection and found the net to make it 3–0.

From there, the girls really took control of the game. Milan kept possession well, restricted Inter’s options, and forced them into going long rather than allowing them to get on the ball and play. Further goals from Wiktoria and Maddie sent us into half-time with a 5–0 lead.

The second half started with the same intensity. The girls continued to move the ball well, stay patient in possession and create chances. Maddie and Amira added further goals, while several other opportunities went begging.

Another really solid team performance, built on patience, possession and controlling the game without the ball. Most pleasing of all was another clean sheet. 👏🏼
