💥FIBROMYALGIA AWARENESS DAY💥

Fibro affects people in different ways. It’s difficult to explain to people as they can’t see it.
For me there’s good days and then out of nowhere they aren’t as good.
It’s so bloody frustrating I know that for a fact.
It’s robbed me of doing what I love.. (lifting weights)
I wake up and go to bed in pain
I find even the slightest of touch’s to be so bloody painful.
The weather can determine how I feel.
Sometimes not even sleep helps me feel refreshed.

BUT…
✅I’ve recently come off my medication and I actually feel better for it 🎉
✅Mentally I feel refreshed
✅My gut and digestion has improved
✅I’ve started to really enjoy walking again (that’s a start)
✅I’m hoping that will progress to weights again 🤞🏻
✅I’m determined to keep working on my nervous system (I fully believe Fibro is a consequence of a “stuck” CNS due to trauma)

I still struggle but I will not let it determine who I am.
Keep going my Fibro warriors 💪🏻

☀️LADIES.. STRESSED AND SHATTERED?

Many women I work with are running on fumes, find it difficult to “find time” and are wondering why they can’t shift the weight.

I think women tend to see exercise as something they have to do to burn calories and lose weight. Whilst this is true, exercise can be so much more.

I am really enjoying my walks lately.
Getting outside into the sun, nothing better than feeling it on your face.
Beautiful surroundings, nature is so calming.
I’ve met loads of people, chatted, and enjoyed meeting their dogs.
It’s been a stress reliever, enjoyable and relaxing.

Maybe changing our outlook on what OTHER things exercise brings us rather than it being a chore or purely to lose weight will help us to FEEL so much better (and probably the weight loss will then come too)

DISCLAIMER.. I live in the North East where we have beautiful surroundings and it’s completely normal and acceptable to speak to strangers 😂😉

🤷🏼‍♀️WHAT’S YOUR HEALTH WORTH TO YOU?🤷🏼‍♀️

I can’t lie if I didn’t say that the last couple of years have been really frustrating for me in terms of my health.
I’ve found it hard living with fibromyalgia BUT it’s always been a diagnosis that I’m determined to battle and overcome.

But as I turn 50 this year 🤦🏼‍♀️ my health and future has been on my mind a lot. Making sure life policies are in place, thinking about retirement etc (the joys!)

What I struggle with at times, is hearing about (and witnessing) people who don’t seem to have their health as a top priority especially when the warning signs are there.
Now I don’t pretend that I’ve got it right all the time… Christ I wouldn’t have burnt out twice if that was the case!!! BUT if my Doc says we need to do this or I get my letter through the door for my routine smear I JUST BLOODY DO IT!

I went to my GP this week to discuss lowering my medication because I’m fed up with the side effects… I left with that in place but also
BOWEL CANCER SCREENING
OVARIAN CANCER SCREENING
EXPLORATORY BLOOD TESTS

Not quite what I was expecting but I’d rather be safe than sorry!

So I guess my message is
DO THE BLOODY CHECKS!
Whether it’s b***s, testicles, smears, pancreas, bowel what ever the hell they want really!

And let’s not forget to do what we can..
Eat well, exercise, cut down on the booze and tabs… live your life yes but just do what you can ❤️

💕LADIES, ARE YOU EXHAUSTED? 💕

When I talk to my clients this usually comes up..
We are working, looking after the home, maybe children, maybe aging parents. Then throw in our hormones which can make us feel great one day and crap the next.
Meanwhile, social media and people like myself are saying “get exercising, get 10k steps in, lift weights, prep your food, do this, do that” and you’re sitting there thinking “I’m exhausted”
I TOTALLY HEAR YOU!!!
So this is what I tell my clients….
1️⃣You absolutely deserve to have some time to look yourself and exercise
2️⃣However, daily life can be demanding, some weeks more than some.
3️⃣So, rather than putting pressure on yourself, take each week as it comes and ask yourself.. what CAN I do this week? What is REALISTIC?
4️⃣When weeks are looking great… go for it. 3 gym sessions a week, meal prep etc etc
5️⃣When weeks are looking tough can you focus more on water, sleep, stretching, walks and using the food prep that you’ve done which is in the freezer!

Be kind to yourself and focus on what you can do not what you can’t 💕

❌WARNING!❌

The good old scales, love them and hate them!
If you’ve just started your new year fitness regime you may see a big drop in your weight in the first couple of weeks..
Great… you’re buzzing!
6/7lbs off and life feels good…
Then you see it drop by just 1lb and you feel disheartened.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING WRONG?? 🤷🏼‍♀️

PROBABLY NOTHING!!

I see this ALL the time and it’s one of the reasons people give up because it’s just not happening quick enough, like it did in the first couple of weeks.

BUT what you need to know is this…
1️⃣6-7lbs a week won’t be just fat.
You’ve stopped the booze, you’ve improved your diet (less salt, sugar and more Whole Foods) you’re moving more so your digestion improves, you lose water weight.
2️⃣1lb = 3500cals… that’s how much you need to be in a deficit per week (500cals per day) to lose that 1lb of fat!
3️⃣Therefore losing 1-2lbs per week is bloody great!!! That’s probably majority fat!!

Don’t get disheartened when the scales “slow down”
The first couple of weeks isn’t a true reflection
Imagine where you’ll be in a couple of months losing 1-2lbs per week! I call it the “power of the pound”
The hare and tortoise again.. remember which one wins in the end 😉

💪🏻ARE YOU JUST STARTING?💪🏻

I spoke on my stories today giving some basic starting points for improving your health.
Many people have “resolutions” and go off track early on, I believe doing too much all at once and trying to change lots of habits at the same time.
Here’s some basics that I’ve done today.
1️⃣ WHAT’S MY STARTING POINT?
I took my weight and measurements this morning. You could take photos, write down how much exercise you’re currently doing, how much water you’re drinking etc
2️⃣ WHAT’S YOUR FRIDGE LOOKING LIKE?
Have you done a food shop? Is your fridge full of veggies, fruit and Whole Foods or cheese, desserts and wine? Get prepared, it removes the uncertainty and temptation.
3️⃣ EXERCISE
Where in your day can you move more? Park further away from the shop, get off the bus a stop earlier and walk, climb the stairs instead of the lift. I walked the long way today to drop off my recycling bag. Simple extra steps to your day.

Obviously if you’re more advanced than this then your choices will have to be more difficult but PREPARATION is key and LOTS OF SMALL CHANGES CAN ADD UP TO BIG MOMENTUM AND STAYING ON TRACK 💪🏻

🤷🏼‍♀️NEW YEAR, NEW YOU?🤷🏼‍♀️

If you’re like me, you may have been asking yourself a few questions over the last couple of days.
You may also have hit the scales like I did this morning and nearly crapped yourself!

Now I’m not usually a “scales” person. I go off how I’m feeling and whether my clothes fit. But if I’m honest with myself I’ve known for a LONG time that the weight has been increasing ⬆️ so it wasn’t really a huge surprise!

Yes I can blame the fibromyalgia, I can blame many things actually… BUT I need to find a solution, some alternatives, and start to put a plan together. (Also I’m a bloody PT so I know what to do!!)

I also know what NOT to do and I see this a lot at this time of year..
TOO MANY CHANGES ALL AT ONCE!!

Whether it’s diet, exercise, new job, new challenges, it’s all good… but just not all at once and not at full steam ahead.

Small steps = big leaps
Think of the hare and the tortoise
We want sustainable action not fed up and giving up after 2 weeks!

Still not sure?
I have only a few spaces available to take on clients or hopefully youll pick up some tips watching myself! (Eek no pressure there then but I need some accountability myself)

Hope your NewYear starts off on the right foot AND keeps going 💪🏻
