Largest review of its kind confirms benefits of tai chi and other Chinese exercises 26/08/2026

An interesting article appeared in the Guardian yesterday about the health benefits of Tai Chi and other traditional Chinese exercises.

Three things that stood out:

Strong scientific evidence: the largest review of its kind analysed 1,744 randomised controlled trials and found “high certainty evidence” for the effectiveness of traditional Chinese exercises, such as Tai Chi and Qigong, can benefit people with musculoskeletal conditions.

Benefits across mind and body: the research found improvement in physical function, pain and stiffness, mental health, sleep quality and bone density.

Regular long term practice matters: the greatest benefits were achieved when people did these exercises for longer than six months, at least three times a week, totalling at least 150 minutes a week.
