🎣 Feva Junior Masters Final – Makins Fishery, Lizard Lake 🎣

Peg 21 was home for the day in todays final.
I knew it was going to be difficult with 20 on the lake today as it fished hard when that many was on it on the Junior National.

It was tightly pegged too which was going to make things interesting.

I got to my peg and knew it was up the wrong end. The wind was blowing down the opposite end and that end is also supposed to be better.
It was flat calm up our end as well but i was still staying positive.

After speaking to some of the regulars on the run up, I set up a few different areas to give myself as many options as possible but my main plan of attack would be around hard pellets.

🔹 13m towards the island to ping pellets
🔹 5m to throw pellets later on in the match
🔹 Edge to my right where i had a small gap in the reeds
🔹 11m line out of my peg to fish for silvers

Started in my edge no bites so had a look short again to no bites in the first hour so thought id have to sit long and be patient. It was a 6 hour match so i had time to be patient as i was told the fish were quite big.
Nothing long so after 2 hours had a look on my silvers line. I caught 3 small roach then foul hooked a small carp in the tail but i landed it so it was a fish in the net!
Ive caught 2 more carp the rest of the match 1 long and the other in my edge.

I spent the whole match just trying to get a bite!!

I finished with 11lb 2oz, which nearly won the section 14lb won the section so was only 1 fish away.

Its been tough and a long day!

Every match is another learning experience though!

It’s been the last day of the summer holidays today for me so what’s better than spending it fishing!

I don’t do much big carp fishing but with my Junior Feva Masters final coming up at Makins in a couple of weeks along with Dad having a works national competition at Hallcroft on Saturday, it seemed to make sense to come and have a little go!

I was excited to use the heavier elastic in our Flex range because i have only really used the orange, yellow and maybe pink sometimes when doing a lot of F1 fishing at venues like Tunnel, Lindholme and Aston Park

So i was looking forward to seeing how the bigger sizes would cope with the big angry carp in Bridge Lake at Hallcroft.

I set up some 2 piece power kits with our 2.2mm red and also our 2.4mm green elastic using the free dacron connector and puller bead it comes with at each end.

With the 6m length i managed to do 2 kits out of 1 box of elastic which works out at £4 a kit! Bargain!

I started short on fishery pellets and caught a few fish all averaging about 4lb

Id been priming a shallow line at 13m and went on it after an hour and managed to catch a few but the wind was making it tricky!

I kept on this line though as it is a method i need to practice more. I noticed i caught the fish slapping in my feed today so they wanted some food and were coming to the noise!

The last part of the session I’ve gone down the edge big potting maggots and fishing maggots over them.

This worked from the off and I’ve caught steady for the rest if the session, catching carp ranging 5lb-15lb.
I’ve ended the day with 120lb on the clicker and i didn’t want to pack away at the end it was that good!!

I tried both the red and the green Flex elastic today. Both were great for those size of fish but i just preferred the red, especially fishing the margin as it was slightly softer to absorb that first run of the carp swimming out the peg but still powered up when it needed to to get those big carp in!

Really enjoyed today! 🎣🎣🎣
