Things are hotting up for Hampshire Cycle Jamboree - Sell, Buy, Chat, Ride, Eat and Drink. Not least the weather.

300 visitors to the web site yesterday.
800 people on Facebook have said they are “Interested”. Which means they will get a reminder of the event over the next couple of days.
60 plus have indicated they are going.
Actual numbers will be somewhere in between.

19 sellers have booked a pitch. Hopefully some more will by the online ticket deadline at noon (AMENDED TO 18:00 apparently 12am is midnight not noon) today - Thursday 24 September. Late entries on the day are allowed but you will have to pay the Alresford Pigs Association (the event volunteers and local charity. No pigs are involved) a tenner at the gate to get in and the pitch fee.

There are 39 bikes in the auction. Six more were consigned yesterday. What will happen today before and after the noon deadline? Late entries are welcome but you will also have to donate £10 (per seller) to the Alresford Pigs Association at the gate rather than £5 plus commission on the sale.

General car parking is at the public car park in the recreation ground and on the cricket field when this fills. The safest access to the Pots is to go to the far top corner of the cricket field near the transformer and houses then walk up the path. The main road will be busy.

Had a great morning at the bi-annual Ripley Cycle Jumble. Didn’t find anything that I needed to fix various vintage/retro bikes but I did come away with a bag full of stuff.

I thought the Carradice Brompton Bag was smaller than Brompton’s bag. Same dimensions roughly.

I hope the Brompton seat post is lighter and longer than my current one.

2 extra quick release mounts for Carradice saddle bags.

A lower gear for one of my 3 speed hubs.

A proper MTB pump for my Agressor GT.

A couple of spare chains,

A bottle rack mounting kit to use on a Brompton seat post.

A spare NOS bottom bracket for my Raleigh Road Ace.

And most importantly I chatted up some more vendors for next Saturday’s Hampshire Cycle Jamboree - Sell, Buy, Chat, Ride, Eat and Drink. A couple have booked overnight. I expect to see around 20 vendors at the Cheriton jumble. Many of them have booked double pitches.

Oh and some photos of the bits of Ripley I have seen for the first time in ten visits to this jumble over the last 10-15 years. Nice cafe at Pinnocks Ripley and an interesting old coaching house hostelry with a wedding party but with a very noisy kitchen extractor fan The Talbot Inn. Bought some strings for my Telecaster at Ripley Guitars. An amazing cobblers.

The stats are looking good: Over 700 people on Facebook have pressed the interested button. And 33 say they are going! Hopefully somewhere between those two numbers will turn up.

The web site gets more than 100 visitors a day.

Three people asked about selling at the Jamboree today.

It’s a few days to go to the Hampshire Cycle Jamboree - Sell, Buy, Chat, Ride, Eat and Drink. Please book a selling pitch or consign your bike to the auction.

On Thursday at noon, online bookings close, so the sellers pitch plan and auction catalogue can be finalised. You can turn up on the day to sell at the cycle jumble or enter a bike in the cycle auction but you will have to give the Alresford Pigs Association £10 at the gate to get in and pay all the normal fees.

If you do decide to come after 12 noon on Thursday:

Bike auction: Please add the bike description and an image via the Comment box on the Auction Web Page, so everyone and me can see what’s going to be auctioned.

For the jumble, please send a message to me via Whats App on 07813 211451 or any other method you prefer.

Final chance to add your bike to the auction and book a pitch to sell at the cycle jumble. Arriving without a “ticket” on the day will cost you an extra £10.

The Alresford Pigs will be assisting at the Hampshire Cycle Jamboree - Sell, Buy, Chat, Ride, Eat and Drink with car parking, cycle jumble management and covert security (difficult to imagine any of them being covert in a pub!).

They will also be running a stall which takes donations on the day for them to sell. If you have stuff but can’t make it on the day, please contact them. They may be able to help.

More sellers and auction bikes have booked themselves a place today.

The Hampshire Cycle Jamboree - Sell, Buy, Chat, Ride, Eat and Drink auction page has been reworked to get the primary images to pop up in lightboxes. With galleries in the Replies for all the supplementary images which open new tabs (they should open lightboxes too but the WordPress plugins are not cooperating).

Next job is to produce a downloadable catalogue single images, short descriptions, lot numbers and valuations.

How much is a Halfords tricycle, one of the first bikes they built, worth? And the other two tricyles from Rudge & Whitworth and Claud Butler. Museum pieces or rideable bikes?

The Brompton Bicycle is easy to value but will there be competitive bids from Winchester/Petersfield to London commuters?

Is the market down or is it up?

Are some of these bikes rare and valuable or rare but no one is bothered?

Can you get a bargain modern bike to take to University? Or will your parents or grandparents get one for you?

There is only one proper way to find out, turn up on the 26th September at the Flower Pots, Cheriton. Have a look. Get a bidder’s number and lift it up for the lot(s) of your desire.

If you can’t be there, you can leave a commission bid or book a phone bid. Remember all bikes must be collected by 6pm. The form is on the auction web page. A packing and delivery service will be available at your cost.
